Sitting in my deerstand....just made a hot steaming cup of coffee on my little heater.

I oughta be ashamed, staying warm and comfortable out here in the woods....but, I'm NOT!!! ;)

If I could only figure a way to turn this heater on by remote control, about an hour before I got in the stand, it sure would be nicer. ;)

It's 8 degrees and sunny this AM, debating if I should go out this morning or not.

Reminds me of the first time I met the good Captain many, MANY years ago. That was way back in the All Outdoors days and he made a post about wanting to find one of those old Coleman catalytic heaters so the kids could stay warm when in his deer stand with him (Coleman no longer made them). I had one I'd bought back in the 80's and only used once or twice, still in the box, up in my attic. I offered it to him (free of charge) and we planned to meet up when he and the family came down to the Florida beach house (July 4th holiday circa '95 or '96 maybe?). I hand-delivered the thing to him, ended up spending the weekend at the beach house with them and ... well, the rest is history. Cappy was the FIRST psycho internet axe-murderer I ever met in person. Man, there's been a LOT of other G/H meetings since that time, but boy-o-boy, did I get a lot of incredulous comments from friends and family back in the day. P/C's were relatively new and all you heard about in the news in those days was about people who met up with nutbags on the internet. Hmmm, come to think of it ... he IS kind of a nutbag! :D

Well after I cleared my drive and the neighbors drive, answered my emails and phone messages it was 9:30 and warmed up to 14. Beautiful day, bright blue sky, no wind and fresh snow, so what the heck, got dressed and headed to the woods alone, my hunting partner had to work.
Man was it quiet, about 12" of fresh powder snow and just about perfect for this time of the year, sitting there in God's splendor it's easy to find yourself giving thanks for all you have.
No deer, no squirrels, no yotes, no nothing, just the beauty of the woods with it's cotton ball covered limbs.
Our season if over tomorrow, then a week off , then 10 days of ML season.
Lots of good sign, but not today in the few hours I was out there.

Those are nice pictures JB. And I'm glad it's you and not me. It was 24 degrees when I got in my tower stand this morning. And I was huddled over my buddy heater like a buzzard on road kill! I shot a big bodied (174 lbs, yes that is big here) screwed up 7 pointer as he was working a scrape on the farm this morning. And I was so cold I started not to shoot him! ;)

I've still got that buddy heater and it still works. Got the original box and paperwork just as you gave it to me.
Best I remember that was one of the first post I ever made on the internet.
And I think its sorta like the pot callin' the kettle black if YOU are calling ME a nut case....

That's prolly an antique collectors item now and worth a bazillion dollars! ;)

Oh, and I didn't call you a nut case ... I called you a nutbag! :D

Yes, a nut case is what Cheryl carries yours around in. A nut bag is what you carry them around in when she decides to let you have them back for a while.

I wasn't gonna say it .... But from what I can see in the pic, that looks a LOT like the buck I saw when I was up there.
