Ford is running around showing off the 2015 Mustang right now. Ok, granted, they won't hit the showrooms for a few more months, but what year IS this anydamnway? It seems these "new car" showings get earlier every year. I don't get it. :confused:

I just took a second to look at it. Man, that car just doesn't do it for me. I liked it when they went retro and changed the body style a few years ago, but this 2015 looks like a throw away, not a throw back. Looks way too much like the 2000 Ford Mustangs which I never did like.

I had a 81 Celica GT. was the first new car I ever bought. And its still my favorite car I've ever owned. and it was the last. I've had nothing but trucks since.

Not sure why they have to introduce cars so friggen early now but that seems to be the way it's done. The 2015 won't actually be available until late 2014 so it's not like you can buy one now.

As for the design, well it's a little underwhelming but I think it stays true to the 'retro 'stang' look that they introduced back in 2005 after many years of really crappy cars (from 1974 on - remember the Mustang 2? Add some much needed improvements such as a fully independent rear suspension coupled with the 5.0 Coyote motor (what a friggen gem that engine is. I absolutely love it!) and you should have a nice handling car in a decent package with mucho hp. Sounds good to me.

At least it looks better than the mess they made of the new C7 corvettes. Now that is a butt ugly car!

Oh yeah, the best looking 'stang was the 1968 fastback. Think Bullitt.

I have a friend at work that has a 2006 Rousch Mustang. Has a 427 cid engine and a gozillion hp. And to top it off, she's a blond.

The Rousch 427R used a supercharger on the 4.6l engine to deliver 427hp. That thing must be a serious hoot to drive! I would love to see Ford bring a big block (427, 428 or 429ci) back into production but we will never see that again, I'm afraid. The new trend is small motors with big hp through turbo or supercharging. Too bad cause there is 'no replacement for displacement' as Smokey used to say.

Johnboy, I spent many a night in Smokey's "Best Damn Garage in Town" when I was a kid. 'Course Smokey died about 10 or 12 years ago, but the old garage just burned down a couple years back. ('bout 2 years ago if I remember correctly)

Ha ha! You got me thinking back about the "good ole' days". :D

I remember my dad and Smokey talking one evening while working on a racecar. My dad mentioned something in the rule book and ol' Smokey (the king of ... ummm ... well, "cheats") said something like, "I don't give a f..k about what's in the rulebook ... all I care about is what's NOT in there!"

As a kid, I thought that was kind'a cool! ;)

He and NASCAR didn't really get along though. He was pretty much a renegade. Rules ... schmules!

Yep, I remember his articles in PS ... or Popular Mechanics maybe(?) and always read them.

Another memory I had was the big joke around his shop. I "think" it was Hot Rod Magazine that took some pictures of one of his engines and published them. There were little holes in the headers right where they exited the head. All sorts of speculation popped up and spread like wildfire. It was supposedly one of Smokey's horsepower tricks and soon EVERYONE was drilling little holes in their headers! Ol' Smokey would laugh his head off at the bozos and the craziness that followed. What they were, were little holes where he'd insert thermocouples to measure exhaust gas temps on the dyno. He wanted to see how efficiently all the cylinders were firing. If one cylinder was running a bit cooler, it wasn't running at peak efficiency. I don't know how long it took for the amateur hotrodders to figure it out. :D
