Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose work as a weapons designer for the Soviet Union is immortalized in the name of the world's most popular firearm, has died at the age of 94.

I heard that on the radio in my truck yesterday.
I've never had one, but from what I understand it is a very reliable weapon that is fairly easy to mass produce, and shoots a pretty potent round (for its size). Accuracy, I have heard, is not all that great...but then it was not intended as a "sniper rifle".

They said that he said once that his rifle didn't make him very much money, and he'd have been better off if he'd designed a better lawn mower.

I inherited one of those bad boys from my Mom.... yes, my Mom !!!
She was an AVID hunter, too,....hardly ever missed a day of deer season, right along with the rest of the family.
Said she got bored with her Rem. 742 because it didnt hold enough bullets.....when she shot a deer, she would keep pulling the trigger, until the gun was empty, even if the deer was dead on the ground. ;)
She bought it from a friend of my dads without anyone's knowledge.
We were all sorta shocked, when she showed up on opening day, with that thing slung over her shoulder with a banana clip attached !!! ;)
She wouldn't even let us remove the bayonet from it. ;)

I assume she was not a fan of venison?

Hahaha....she was an excellent shot, but got her nose peeled several times by a rifle scope.
So, she used the AK open-sighted.
Man, she could toss some lead !!! ;)
Sure do miss her and my Dad.
Those were some fun times. ;)

I wasn't talkin' 'bout lack of accuracy ... more about "blood-shot" meat! ;)

Yep, i know what you meant. I just threw the rest of the story in there.
She could definitely ruin some venison, for sure. ;)
She said her job was to kill 'em, and cook breakfast for all of us, afterwards.
Our job was to skin 'em for her....at least, what was left of 'em. ;)

Your mom sounds like someone I would have enjoyed meeting.

Now that is a cool Mom story. I bet she was a hoot to be around.

She was definitely a hoot !!!....kept ALL of us on our toes....and, said exactly what was on her mind, too.

She could sho nuf adjust us kid's attitudes, with a chinaberry limb, too. ;)
