Is there a story about his absence?
I miss the old curmudgeon, no one else here you can pick on.

I miss him, too. I suspect he may have just gotten tired of being picked on...

I've stayed in touch with him. He's just found better ways to spend his time and Chicken Dinner isn't entirely off on his guess. I still like the old boy, but if whether he chooses to come back or not is entirely up to him. In the mean time I think he's enjoying being a grandpa and doing a little fishing. Nothing wrong with either of those things.

I'm to blame ... I pissed him off ... he picked up his toys and went home. I'm going straight to Hell and the debbil's waiting for me. :(

I've been hesitant to even call and check on him....oh well, I was only gonna tell him that the crappie spawn at Chicot was over, and I'm only catching small 2 to 2 1/2 pounders, trolling out in the open water, now.
He prolly ain't interested in that, anyway. :fish:toothy

We have "talked" by email a time or two. He's not mentioned anything about the site to me? I know from the log he is reading. I guess he just chooses not to post. No need to blame Thumper. It takes two to argue, and God knows he's done plenty of slamming over the years hisownfineself... :D
He will be back to posting, or not his call....

you might go to hell Jimbo but it won't be because you picked on Bucky. It probably would be for being a cat person. I'm pretty sure the bible says something about cats being the anti-Christ

Fellers, if I got slammed as often as Bucky does I'll be damned if I'd post anything. I miss his input and his bullshit. Lighten up on the guy if and when he comes back.this place has been dead as hell for weeks. Maybe his absence is a factor. Sob, i miss the old bastard.

Thumper
06-24-2014, 04:23 AM
Yep Booger ... it has been dead. Probably for two reasons. The usual, annual, summer lull (kids out of school, summer vacations, no hunting season, etc) AND the fact Bucky isn't posting (nobody is). No, make that three reasons ... BOOGER never posts squat either! If you just read and never participate, you have no valid complaint. HINT, HINT! ;)

If past history is any indication, there's been more activity within all the "back-ground e-mails" lately than there is on the site right now.

I miss ol' Bucky also ... but as Cappy said, he can sure dish it out himself. You have to be thick-skinned around this place and I think Bucky sometimes forgets the words HE wrote for our homepage: "We are a TIGHT KNIT group and love to pick on one another just like family."

Does he generate conversation? Sure he does. Why? Because one of "us" may post something exciting like, "Wow, what a beautiful day it is today" and there may be a few subtle responses like, "Yeah ... nice here too" ... then someone will pipe in with, "It's raining here" and finally the thread dies out. BORING!

Now, in strolls Bucky with a similar post ... "Wow, what a beautiful day it is today" ... BUT, he continues with, "The sky is a bright yellow, the grass is purple and the birds are singing "God Bless America"!

Now what happens? Someone jumps in and says there's no way the sky can be yellow. Someone else says it can if the planets are lined up perfectly. Someone else says that's nuts .. it has to do with refraction through ice crystals in the air and can happen this time of year. Someone else says you're all nutbags 'cause the sky is BLUE you f'ing maroons! THEN the argument starts about purple grass ... nope, it's GREEN ... ummm, well, except for Kentucky Blue Grass. "No you ignernt dingbat ... that's just a figure of speech!" THEN someone pipes in, "You dingle-butt, birds chirp ... they can't sing "God Bless America!" and the argument continues. THEN Bucky gets offended that we don't believe the sky is yellow, the grass is purple and the birds aren't really singing "God Bless America" ... so he picks up his toys in a huff and goes home.

Now the battle is left to those who remain and there will be the "Bucky was picked on crowd" as well as the "We simply pointed out he's goofy to think the sky is yellow, the grass is purple and the birds sing "God Bless America" crowd. All the while, Bucky's off pouting about being "picked on" and we're back to the boring old "Wow, what a beautiful day it is today" posts followed by a couple of lame comments.

Bucky generates conversation. Why? Because much (no, make that MUCH) of what he has to say is SUBJECTIVE ... once all the comments roll in, the thread switches from "subjective" to "objective" and if the two don't match Bucky's thinking, Bucky believes he's being picked on.

Whatever .... I miss him and would love to see him posting again. His posts generate conversation because he leaves himself wide open for agreement, criticism or flat out argument ... but that's not necessarily a bad thing ... UNLESS you take it personally and walk away dragging your lower lip mumbling "Woe is me".

Oh ... BTW ... the above editorial is simply MHO. ;)

We pick on him too much. It's that simple. I'd get pretty tired of it too.

What the hell is all this talk about "picking" on Bucky? He has slammed me and others as hard or harder than he has ever been slammed.
Y'all are not remembering well or have selected memories one.
Calling Bucky a "victim" of picking is like saying a drug dealer is a victim of a robbery....
Hell he's a friend of mine and I'd do anything for him or his family. But he ain't no innocent victim here. Id like to see him posting again. When he does I ain't gonna tip toe around nobody. If I smell bullshit I'll call it. If thicker skin is needed then so be it. I figure he will come back and post or not.

These are all the reasons I don't waste my time arguing with people. If Bucky sees purple grass BFD, let him see all the purple grass he can, if he can talk to the birds good for him.
Why is it my duty to tell him he's wrong, who am i anyway.
Everyone has beliefs or opinions, they got that way going through life, I got mine the same way, if they are different than yours so what, as long as you're not pointing a gun at me and telling me I"m wrong, I'll keep mine and you can keep yours.
If someone starts to talk to me about religion, politics, the color of grass or what ever, I'll listen to them, then decide if it's worth telling them what I think or just smile and walk a way.
Usually it's the latter.
The old saying "That SOB really pissed me off" is always wrong, YOU are the only one that can make yourself mad, you should have full control over how you react, not the other guy,

Bubba for President! I couldn't agree more. 'Course, without "disagreements" ... this would be a real boring place! Discuss it, form/change/keep your own opinion and move on to the next subject.

Hey. Thanks for asking about me. Not mad at anyone. I check in sometimes.

Kids have been here, one of them still is, and I've been camping for a week with no service, and we were gone to St. Louis, and going camping again tomorrow when last kid leaves to go back home.

Not much I can say to the above that will at all come close to sounding right, but I don't think I've been picked on. I can always abide anyone disagreeing with me on anything (obviously, duh) but I'm not interested in my character being impugned. It isn't killing me or making my beautiful hair fall out, but I'm just not interested in anything at that level. I do remember offending folks in the past, but I don't ever remember failing to apologize if I did. I believe Jim's assessment above is off course, but it's his so that's fine. I imagine Cappy's is pretty spot on. He sounds like Charles Barkley's statement of "You're a growed ass man, do whatever you choose". Picking on me is not the issue, I'll just say that. There's a difference in some of the things said and just meaningless banter.

And I've honestly seen several yellow skies, and some green ones........ both usually right before a tornado. We had one of those a few weeks back and the sky was BOTH colors, I promise. But I doubt discussing sky color would make anyone here truly mad, including me, so that's not an issue.

And my email and phone work just fine. Holler anytime. But I do appreciate the concern, more than you know. I'll be around when I'm able.

Take care.

Nice to hear things a good, I wish I had time for camping, camper has been used just one weekend do far, sit's in the barn the rest of the time.
I'm suppose to be retired but don't tell any of my builders that, I'm buried in work, wife's buried in grandkids stuff, weather is still a little cool for this time of the year and summer is going way to fast.
Big one week trap shoot is coming up next week, usually we go down for the whole week, not sure about this year. I'm shooting better than ever before, but taking a whole week off right now is not very doable.
Wife has grandma week with the camper for all the grandkids, may schedule that sometime in July after most of the snow if gone.
Blue Angles are back this year for our National Cherry Festival so if any of you dufes are around come on up.

And sheeesh! You KNOW the yellow sky was simply a hypothetical.

Anyway, get your camping out of the way and get back into the fray ... or is it frey? Freigh? Awww heck, just get back here so I can piss you off! ;)

Hmmm.

Interesting thread and I was glad to see Bill poke his head in and let us know how he was doing. Glad to see he isn't upset with anyone. He really is one of the irreplaceable ones around this joint.

Sometimes bucky might be sort of like myself (at times). It isn't that you don't have convictions or firm feelings on things it is just that sometimes you lose interest in arguing or listening to arguments. And sometimes the last thing I want to do is to engage in a hard fisted debate when you know damned well that nothing will be accomplished.

Sometimes I enjoy those things. But sometimes I just want to (mentally at least) pull up a chair on a dock and wet a line for a few hours. Methinks I am getting old too. :)
