Yep, sorry to hear about that....I was just a little kid at the time, and watched Maverick on an old black and white tv with a little round picture tube....barely could see their faces, to see which was Bret and which was Bart. ;)

Doggone. He was a good actor. I remember his Maverick shows....but they were on in the afternoon after school along with Sugarfoot, The Cisco Kid, and The Rifleman.

I really liked him in The Rockford Files during the early 70's.

I always like James Garner. Some really great work behind him.

I can still remember my grandmother and aunt arguing over who was the best looking man in the world. Grandma like Garner but my aunt thought James Coburn had him beat. Women. :p

I always thought Support Your Local Gunfighter was his best movie.

RIP!

I always liked him too. Did you know that he also drove the pace car for the Indy 500 three times?

Yep, he was a huge race fan and actually, a pretty decent driver. He used to do all his own driving stunts when filming The Rockford Files.

Other than Indy, he also drove the pace car at Daytona back in the Trans Am days (some of my favorite racing back in the day). This pic was taken back in 1968 when I was following the Trans Am circuit. I was hanging with the Mark Donohue crowd when he was driving for Penske. In fact, when I built my "hotrod" Corvair in 1969-1970, I fitted a set of Donohue's sintered iron brake shoes on my car. They were a BITCH when cold, but the hotter they got, the better they worked (pre-disc days). I never met Garner personally, but saw him around.

Here he is in the Daytona pace car. Although he's not in this pic, (Big Bill) Bill France Sr. (NASCAR founder) manned the passenger seat when Garner did the parade laps.

Garner also used to race Baja back when I was running around with Bill Stroppe's team. Stroppe was running the Bronco at the time, as was Garner. He was a pretty decent driver. Here he is in a Bronco ... but I think about the time I got out of high school, he was driving a modified Olds Cutlass or sumpin' like that.

The theme song from The Rockford Files had been running through my head all day.
