One of my favorite groups from the 70's. I think I had all their 8-tracks! ;)

I'm getting ready to list (on eBay) one of those cast iron builder's plates I mentioned here before. It's from a steam locomotive built in 1942. The more info in the ad equals more $$$ ... so I try to research the things as much as possible. Price also depends on rarity, desirability, etc. etc. ... so every little bit helps.

Well, it seems this particular locomotive belonged to the Grand Trunk Western Railroad (it was scrapped in 1960). Grand Trunk Railroad??? That rang a bell! I Googled "Grand FUNK Railroad" and found this little tid-bit:

Grand Funk Railroad is an American blues rock band that was highly popular during the 1970s. Grand Funk Railroad toured to packed arenas worldwide. David Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine once said "You cannot talk about rock in the 1970's without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!" The band's name is a play on words of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a railroad line that ran through the band's home town of Flint, Michigan.

Here's my plate and the locomotive it came off of:

3359 3360

Locomotive 6332, Class U-3-b, built by Schenectady-Alco February 1942, #69638, scrapped April 1960.

I did a house for one of the band members, nice little place set out in the woods.
I don't think I can name one song from them.
Never met the band member, worked through his builder.

I taught at a school just south of Flint, from 1970 to 78, I remember listening to them on the classroom radio, students liked them, I was still stuck in the 60's :friday

'Taint nuttin' wrong with the 60's Bubba! I stayed pretty much on top of the music thing up until Disco got big ... then I hit the wall and pretty much stuck with the "older" stuff. When I listen to those old tunes now, I get a little choked up and wonder where the time went. :(

Two things that bring back the most memories, different smells and music.
50 years ago next month I started my college life, I have some CD's with all the old 60's songs, driving down the road with the top down and those songs playing makes me feel as if I was still driving this

I drove an old '65 Corvair to college ... built it my senior year of high school.

It was a bit low on power, so I dropped a little something in the back seat to spice things up a bit! :D

Youse guys be good and have a great weekend. Lynn's taking off work early, we're meeting a couple of old friends (of 25 years) for an early dinner, then the four of us are gonna hit the concert together. Should be a fun night!

"I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" is my favorite as well. Being from Arkansas I also hold a special place for "American Band". They mention both Little Rock and "Sweet Sweet Connie". Connie is our local groupie that always "had the whole band". She's still alive and still milking her little bit of rock and roll history/celebrity.
