Opening Day Saturday

Gotta be out in the woods in my stand at 5:08. After an hour drive, that has me waking up at about 3:30, or in less than 4 hours. This'll probably the only morning hunt I do all season. You can have it!

30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Turns out it's 6:08 after you adjust for daylight savings time, for the zone I hunt in.

Also, one must shoot an antlerless deer first. When I shoot a buck, it has to have at least 3 spikes on one side if it has one antler longer than 3 inches in length. If not, it's an antlerless deer and I can shoot it. At least in Fall bow. During permit bow or winter bow, it doesn't matter. But you have to have an antlered deer permit. You can only get one per permit season per zone. And you have to buy it at the time you buy your permit, or you won't get it later.

NJ has 69 zones with 8 regulations sets! Each with its own start and end season dates and regulations for each of their 3 bow seasons.

It's enough to make your head spin. Virginia was much better: You couldn't shoot more than 6 deer a day. That's about it as far as regs went, as far as I recall.

Ours opens oct 5, but my sis in law is screwing me up and getting married that weekend. So I'll be down at Top Sail island fishing on the beach instead of bow hunting.

Id rather be bow hunting. I need to pop the cherry on my new crossbow!

So far I had a mess of wild hogs in here before daylight and another hunter came by and ran those off before it got light enough to shoot. I've seen One momma and baby deer, no shoot, baby still had spots and didn't want to take momma out with it that little. Seen 3 hen turkeys, 5 gray squirrels, one fox squirrel, one crow and ????? Doves
Nothing to shoot at yet!

I'd almost pay you and Sandy to come here and hunt around these corn feeders. I've got 18 feeders running and I bet there is never less than 5 or 6 on each feeder anytime of the day.

Wifey won't allow me to shoot her little rat-bastages in the yard....they are her "pets"....they swarm all over her corn feeder....it's unbelievable how much corn a bunch of them can eat....they eat through about 50 pounds of corn every week....the deer don't even have a chance to get a nibble....Sandy goes berserk over them, then just looks at me with that queried look on her face, like; "W.T.F. is wrong with you, shoot the hell out of those little bastages!!! ;)

Rained all day by me, too! Out at 6:08 in by 7:38. Pouring rain all day. Didn't see nothing..! That's my trip report. Next time I'll post pictures of me in my spiffy new ghillie suit..

I think it'll work for hunting.. Had an approaching squirrel jump about 2 feet high when he realized the lump in front of him was looking back at him. Of course, I wouldn't have even seen the squirrel if it were squirrel season. Saw a pheasant, too. I guaranteed myself I won't see any pheasants during pheasant season this year by buying a NJ pheasant stamp.

Niner I took that old ass-pincher curve of the road stand down Last year and replaced it with a new and improved tower stand especially designed for crossbow hunting. Didn't get to hunt last year on opening day so that ended my streak.
Like this year I could have killed opening day but the right doe didn't show and I was NOT gonna hang a tag on one of them peckerheads.... :-)
