I just received an email from the son of the guy who named NASCAR. I've told youse guys previously he was like a second father to me (actually my Godfather) and I grew up with him either at our house (practically lived there) or at his shop which was located on the back stretch of the Daytona track by the Daytona airport. I couldn't tell you how many nights I slept on a pile of tires in his shop as he and my dad were working on race cars.
Anyway, I never even knew he had a son (or sons as I later found out). Well, evidently his son is writing a book about his dad and he wants to pick my brain for what I know about him. (interesting reading here)

He sounds pretty negative toward the France family (who "own" NASCAR) and is trying to get a little more credit for his dad I guess. I think ol' dad pretty much disowned the kids and wasn't really a part of their lives. Odd, but he treated me as a son. I have very fond memories of him and even remember what he gave me for my 10th birthday!
Well, his son is going to be calling shortly and I guess we'll be getting to know each other a little better.
Here's my Godfather (left) with Tiny Lund (right). Notice the sponsor on the rear fender ... my dad was the Service Manager there and another Daytona racer (and my dad's childhood friend) was the Sales Manager there at the time.
