Man. I can't wait till Saturday. Headed to a little lake called Cedar Lake down in God's country. A little lake where I used to take girls to go swimming. No all i can think of is fishing it! My how times have changed!

Thanks Troy! (I still say that's a striper not a wiper!)

It's a wiper. There are no stripers in that lake, only wipers.

Well, there's one now since you released that one in there.

It has broken lateral lines and the other side is even more broken up that the side shown in the photo. Plus he's got that whitebass over all shape. I know it looks a lot like a striper, but I can say with complete confidence that it's a wiper. There aren't any striper bass within 200 miles.

OK, I'll bite (ha).

How does a hybrid striper/white (wiper) get in a lake with no stripers?

Bred at the fish hatchery. They are very careful with this as they do not want to introduce a non sterile fish into the fish population.

Birddog and I were fishing an old 'L' shaped coal pit that we call the Boomerang (the name ' The L' was already taken) and I caught a hybrid that prolly went close to four pounds. How the hell it got in there is anybody's guess. We were thinking when they stocked it that fish got in there by accident. Maybe they used the same tank truck as they'd used before and this little feller got in there. He's still swimming around in theer as I released him but its fer sure a mystery.
There ain't no white bass or stripers in any of those pits.

The lake I caught the wiper out of is managed as a trophy trout and smallmouth fishery. If striper turned up in that lake they'd string the fish and feather cops up. I will say this, it is one HECKUVA trophy fishery for trout and bass. If I still lived down there I'd fish it every week and never get tired of it!

I AM SO FREAKING BORED AT WORK TODAY! It's a 3 day work week for me this week as we have teacher training conventions going on Thursday and Friday. I've got all my students lined out and working today. I'm going crazy as the weather outside is perfect for fishing. I WANT TO BE FISHING RIGHT NOW!!!

Wonder if you could get a school bus and take your students to go do some sketches of the elusive Montana wild trout?
