Florida woman arrested after shooting at snake on school grounds
Published October 16, 2014
Associated Press

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A Panama City woman who tried to shoot a water moccasin during practice for a youth football team was arrested for discharging the gun on school property.

Police say 30-year-old April Dawn DeMarco borrowed a gun from Miren Gregory after the snake was spotted last week on a Bay High School field. As coaches tried to kill the snake with a stick, Gregory told DeMarco she had a concealed permit and a .380-caliber handgun.

The News Herald of Panama City reports children were about 20 to 50 yards away when Demarco fired the gun.

She was arrested Monday. Gregory was arrested Tuesday for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm on school property. It's not clear whether they've hired lawyers.

Police didn't know the fate of the snake.

Is it against the law or ain't it? I have no idea in Florida. I know its been discussed here in our legislature but right now I think it's illegal for a teacher or school employee to carry, much less discharge, a firearm on school property. So she prolly should've known better. Should have called Captain instead so he could have gone and caught it and played with it.

Illegal to shoot a snake anywhere, in Arkansas.

With my CHP in VA, I'm allowed to have a pistol in my vehicle when I drop the kids off. But, that's about it.

Yeppers ... they BOTH f'd up IMHO. I'm kinda wondering if they'll get slapped on the wrist or face serious consequences? I'd also have to assume the CCL holder will lose her permit.

I carry a .380 these days. The .45 is a bit much when all I wear is shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops. ;)

Oh yeah, and you'd be hard-pressed to find Cappy without a .380 in his pocket.
