From the 'evidence' that is so far public, I can't see how anyone could reasonably think this guy should be indicted for anything. Has Missouri effed this whole thing totally up? Yep. Is the Ferguson police force representative of it's population? Nope. Does any of that have anything to do with what this cop did? Nope.

I thought the gov of Missouri did a good thing with his commission last week. Now if they'll act on what it comes up with, they can fix some of that shit. Breaking into shoe stores and stealing everything but the work boots ain't one of 'em.

The thing I don't understand is why if the minorities want the police to be more reflective of the population, why don't they do what they need to do to become police officers and even out the numbers?

Lowering standards to get more minority hires is not the answer. Gary, Indiana is a prime example of that. When I was in the academy, there were about 16 officers from Gary PD in my class. Some of them were hired the regular way, and some were hired on a grant to increase the number of minorities on the department. You could tell which was which just by watching how the acted. One of the regular hires was voted as our class president because he was really squared away and very well spoken. By the way, he was black. Several of the grant hires looked and acted like they had just stepped out of the hood and even had the gang tats to prove it.

I don't know what the answer to making the ethnicity of a police force the same as the general population, but if you lower standards just to get the numbers you want, you will have a divided department, and the public will suffer because the will have bad cops which will cause another set of problems.

I'm sure its a challenge. I know Tulsa PD has a pretty intense recruiting effort for minorities. I heard the other day that 45% of the current academy class is minority.

In other news, my daughter was pretty damn scared last night at the goings on in Richmond right outside her dorm. Took everything I had to not take th 2 hour drive down there to get her out of there.
