View Full Version : Trail Camera provider recommendation

I (and visa) decided this year to try and get a couple of trail cameras and see what the heck is "out there".

I'm glad I did. I had fun running the two cameras I bought. I know some folks have zillions of 'em, but I'd have to hire 100 Messicans to run that many. So I (and visa) bought two.

I got the Browning Spec Ops and the Browning Strike Force. I could elaborate on why those two if anyone is interested, but this is about where I got the Spec Ops one from. www.trailcampro.com

First, even if you aren't interested in buying one, that's a wonderful website to look at. Sort of the Consumer Reports of trail cameras. (Unfortunately, they just stopped providing any info on Cuddebacks......upon 'request'......which bothers me, but oh well).

Anyway, I took a pile of pictures during the last few weeks. Daytime pictures with both cameras are great. Even with movement, they are awesome. I use a rapid fire, 4 shot burst to get full effects. Neat stuff.

But the night time pics of the Spec Ops sucked. One of them, I THINK was a deer! That's how bad it was. This company doubles the warranty if you buy from them, and were stated to have awesome customer service. So I bought one camera from them. I'm glad I did, as I sent them some examples of these poor night time pics.

After several personal emails today back and forth, a guy just called me. We talked for some time. He was satisfied I was doing things right, using right batteries, correct settings, all that......... and he said that they had a 'run' of some of the Browning Spec Ops (only) that had terrible night time pics, and he assumed I got one out of that run. He pointed me to another camera that is similar but takes better night time pics...........and offered to trade me, straight up. Better, he's sending the new camera......with a return label inside. Not the other way around.

Top Notch Major League service..........rivals Cabelas!!! In Missouri somewhere, I think. But unless the price is astoundingly different, they will get all my future business!!

Good information. A rarity these days for sure.

FWIW, the other Browning camera I got (Strike Force) took/takes acceptable night time pics.

I think that first night time one was some type of........something. Those turkey pics are cool!

That's a pretty nice buck! I love those turkey pics as well. Is this at your farm or deer lease?

Is that winterpeas I see in with that wheat/Rye?
I can help you with that turkey problem.

A) Lease

B) I hunted him hard........in daylight. I couldn't get AGFC to allow hunting times when he was active. Not ONE daylight pic of deer last 10 days. Many bucks at night. He was the best.

C) Those that turkey hunt say they are thick in the Fall, and almost disappear in the Spring. But you are welcome to come on down! Fees are small! :) :)

D) You got good eyes if you can see winter peas. Yes, there may have been one or two that came up. And no, it wasn't eaten down before it got up, they just didn't come up good. We planted a 10 foot test patch behind the house, in the shade, and they did ok. I don't know what it was. This year they didn't eat a bite of corn, very little food plot (although a bit of each). Acorns were like leaves....everywhere. Course, they'll be gone totally soon, if not already. Then I guess they might eat the food plots.

Get off your overstuffed easy chair in that stand and do some walking. He has to be bedding down during the day. Find his dang bedroom and kick him out of bed! If he won't come to you ... go to him! (oh, and do NOT take the wheelie!) ;)

Good grief.

That's a sure fire way to get shot.

You .........

You're on a LEASE. What kind of dufes do you hunt with?

I'd explain it, but you'd have some comeback. It is NOT a good idea to be walking around in thick brush when 4-5 other guys are sitting in trees not far off with high powered rifles. No one in their right mind would do that. But you can come on down and act like a fat beagle if'n you want. We'll try not to shoot you. Not to mention that you'd scare off every OTHER deer in the area.

Just be sure to aim at him, he should be fine.

From me.

But there are 4-5 other goobers out there, remember?

P.S.
I haven't missed in 4 years. Period. Neener neener.

Can we start calling Jimmy "Fat Beagle" now? please?

I think we should. "pUMpHEAD SYSOp" is getting kind of stale.
