Ya'll can have this sheeit....we just ain't accustomed to this stuff....I haven't hardly been outta the house in 4 day'um days....started with sleet, freezing rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and now 4 inches of snow, since 12 p.m.

Only 3 days of rabbit and squirrel season left, and I'm stuck in the house. ;(

Y'all bitching?

Well COUNT ME IN!!

Should have jonquils and grass by now.

Crazy stuff today.......SOUTH Arkansas got another round.......but not the north. Almost unheard of. They never get snow. I just got this picture from Jeannie's cousin at the farm:

That is one of lightest hit in S. Arkansas. Pine Bluff got about 6-8 inches, I heard!!! And that is on top of freezing rain!!!!

Our pastures are as muddy and torn up as I've ever seen them. Gonna be a wet spring it looks like. Temps WAY below normal for this time of the year. All month. Damn global warming.

Just imagine how bad it'd all be without Global Warming???

Get a puzzle out and work on it.
I always have a puzzle, on the table, during winter.
Don't like doing any over 500 pieces. :D

Why is a little snow stopping you from rabbit hunting? That's the best way to hint them in my opinion. I've probably shot more rabbits on rainy days than any other. And they really stick out in the snow.

I don't hunt squirrels after the leaves come off. Too easy in my opinion when you can see them all the way across the woods. I like the challenge of getting them when there is a full leaf cover. Our squirrel season opens in the middle of August and I usually stop hunting them by the end of September when our early goose season opens up.

Never mind my last post. I forgot that you Southern folk can't drive if there's more than a half inch of snow on the ground. :toothy

Come to Florida ... you'll find out Yankees can't even drive when road conditions are PERFECT! I love it when they do 45 mph in the fast lane on the Interstate ... the whole time with their turn signal on. ;)

Haha....Ddog, well, for one thing, we are too old and lazy to kick up a rabbit in the snow, here and there....we use little 10 inch beagles for rabbit hunting, and those little fella's heads wouldn't even stick out above this deep snow....they'd be plumb tuckered out in 15 minutes. ;)

As far as squirrel hunting, I will prolly never own another dog like Sandy, in my lifetime.
So, we are gonna hunt the little bastages, any time and any place, within the limits of our season, and weather conditions....Sandy isn't picky about whether the leaves are still hanging or not....heck, the DOW has even given us a two week spring season, in May, this year....if the snakes aren't out, we'll be hunting. ;)

I've seen what a 3" 12 gauge slug can do to a squirrel. Don't ask me how...

Southerners all know what "barking a squirrel" means!!! Can't carry two long guns wid ya every time in the woods!!!

Captain

Bucky, several of us use to get together and squirrel hunt with 50 caliber muzzleloaders. Barking is how we would shoot them. Pretty cool way of getting them too. We always shot patch and round ball made out of as soft a lead as we could pour.
Reading your post sorta makes me want to break out the old smoke pole and go again!

Hm........was just sending a guy some pictures. Found a picture from last year..........we had snow and ice on March 3........

BUT, February had been extremely warm, if I remember.

Hard freeze again next two nights. Just nuts. I don't care what I'm called........I have had enough of this. Anyone living north of the Mason Dixon line is..........is........well, even good people can be insane, let's just say that!!!!

Though freezing rain is never fun, I tend to agree with jb's comment.

As for the "snow" in eddie's picture, up here a scene like that means it's just about time to start planting the garden. :)

Bunch'a wusses aren't they JB. Heck, when it gets like that we actually come out to play. Might go bird hunting.

It was -25 when this photo was taken.

Or maybe shoot a coyote. I got the coyote the same day the birds above.

Then again deer hunting is pretty good as well. It was a little warmer this day with it only being -20, but the snow was deeper.

When it's too cold to hunt (which is really not possible), we do what any sane person would do and go fishing. ;)

Dog and I took a walk this morning about 4:45. 13 degrees - 6-7" of fresh powder - barred owl was hollering - dog put up a pheasant.. Probably be the best part of the whole freaking day. ;) Oh, just counted over 60 cardinals at the feeder - 8 blue jays - a dozen doves - and dozens and dozens of LBBs (little brown birds).

I am with Sky some of the best hunting I have had is when we have snow on the ground never to cold to get out and do some hunting. Here is a photo of my deer from last year. Snow was up past my knees, hard to walk in, but was great for hunting.
