Okay What Color Is It???!!!

So it's all over the net right now. What color do you guys think this dress is? As an art teacher I'm finding this controversy very interesting about how we perceive color/light. I know what color it appears to me, I will be interested in what y'all think it is?

White and gold for me. I saw this on the news and they showed a side by side picture of one that was blue and black. What did they change about the picture to make it look that way?

This makes no sense at all.

When you over saturate the whites in a digital image, they start to turn blue. But everyone's eyes see color differently.

I know you guys have probably seen it, but Big Muddy and Len, what color do you see? My wife and I both see it completely differently. It blows my mind that two people can look at the same picture and see two totally different colors.

I saw this on another site, and it was clearly white and gold there.

Here, on Big Sky's original post, it's blue and black. On Ed's reproduction, of all things, it's Blue and Gold!!!

Which is what I did on the other site.

When I took my army physical, the only thing I didn't do great on, was color blindness. I got most of them right..........but some I could not see. The tester kept looking at me like I was cheating. I assured him I was being honest and accurate on what I saw. They ended up listing me as a Picket Fence Profile (all 1's) except for color blindness which listed as "IsoChromatic Normal". I've spent 45 years wondering what the heck that meant.

On the picture Eddie posted it is lighter blue but not white.
Sky can you see the color lavender?
If so that's the color it appears in eddies copy of the picture to me.
The picture you posted it much deeper blue.

No Cappy it's just white and gold in either photo. I've taken a zillion color blind tests and I've always passed with perfect color vision according to the tests. This freak'n dress is really messing with my head and all that I know about color theory. It's making me start to think that color theory is totally irrelevant.

Yesterday, when I saw this on the Internet, it was gold and white. Today I see the blue and dark color!!
I think it has to do with how the picture was taken.
Its much nicer in gold and white. :D

I see the white and gold, but the white maybe shading towards pink at least on the jacket. But then I'm one some good pain meds right now. Had my knee surgery yesterday. Doc said everything went well and they started with the physical therapy already today.

Here's what interesting to me.. the first dozen pictures I saw - every one was white/gold. Saw it on television this morning and it was blue/black. Wife was sitting right beside me and saw white/gold. Sky's picture is blue/black. Fascinating shit...


EDIT: Boggles my mind. I went back and looked at the same pictures I looked at yesterday - that were as gold and white as they could be - they are *now* - black and blue... Creepy. :slaphead

When we were still teenagers, my first cousin got a job at our local Walmart (it was brand new then!) sporting goods department and we all thought we'd died and gone to heaven. His first purchase were some styrofoam unpainted mallard decoys and the paint to spray paint them with. It was the first time I can recall that we discovered how truly color blind my cousin was/is. The bodies were brown and the heads were orange. Puky, Texas orange. We killed the shit out of ducks over those decoys but it was embarassing to even put them out. That didn't slow us down much though.

Well I am ambidextrous, so maybe I'm that word she said, when it comes to colors too.

I have no problem, looking into a picture and seeing the different picture hidden in it. :D
