Deputies: 13-year-old boy shoots brothers, turns gun on himself

Two young brothers are dead and one wounded after a shooting Wednesday night. Deputies received the call at 6:19 p.m. on 16000 block of Bachmann Avenue in Hudson.

According to preliminary information, three brothers were home alone eating dinner when an argument ensued over food.

Deputies said the 13-year-old retrieved a handgun, shot and killed his 6-year-old brother, shot his 16-year-old brother, and then turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.

The surviving 16-year-old brother was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, according to deputies.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said the mother of the boys was at work at the time. Their 18-year-old brother was also not home.

"This is an absolute horrific scene. One of the things we talk about in Pasco County is there's unfortunately a lot of tragedies but this one is a nightmare. The death of a 6 year old, we're talking about a 13 year old taking these steps," he said.

The victims names have not yet been released but Nocco said his office has contacted their schools so they can have grief counselors on hand Thursday.

Why was that child able to get a hold of the gun?
Why wasn't it in a safe, especially since the parents weren't home.

I'm sorry, but this is the parents fault.

If you are going to have a gun, in your house with kids, you have to be a responsible gun owner.

As far as I'm concerned, if a gun owner is not taking responsibility for their gun, and someone is shot or killed with that gun, then you have legal consequences.

As for why these kids did this?? Who knows.
I think the country has gone over board with violent video games and violent movies.
Kids are desensitized to killing and don't know how to interact with live humans.

There will be no hand held games, for my grandkids, in this house and only good quality movies.

Time for parents to take their heads out of their asses and be responsible parents.
