I ran into a deal to good to pass up today, I bought a Weatherby Mark V Sporter in .257 Weatherby mag and a Weatherby Vangaurd Deluxe in .300 Weatherby Mag. The guy threw in 5 boxes of Weatherby ammo for each gun (10 boxes) and Leupold rings and bases for each. I paid just about $200 less than what the Vangaurd was worth for everything. I would say the guns were in 90% condition. I am not sure if I am going to keep them but should I be able to get 2.5 x my $$$ out of them if I do decide to sell them.

My .257 Wmag has put my .270 into 'first substitute' mode.......... congrats.

Boyd has some sweet stocks for it!

The Vanguard came with the original stock and a Boyd's grey laminate stock. I was trying to decide if the .257 would put my .270 WSM to out pasture.

You made a killing on that buy. Freaking ammo alone $500.00 or more. I'd keep the 257 and hawk the 300, but that's just me...

You NEEEEEEED the Winny M70 338 Win Mag that's gathering dust in my gun safe.
Bought it thinking I'd need it for a "Western Hunt" one of these days.......and it don't look like that day's ever gonna roll around.

Niner I sure would like to have a 338 win mag but that last purchase kind of depleted my fun money cache. If I end up selling the 300 Weatherby I might hit you up.

Niner, I could be your huckleberry on the 338 if Sky or some other Dufe don't take it.

I shot a .300 Wby Mag once.

Once.

It was the final proof, if any was needed, that I was, and am, a total wuss. Cartridge looks like a roman candle.

I can "one-up" ya, 'Rub. I shot a .460 Weatherby Mag. Kicked.

The most "remarkable" rifle I know of personally is a Weatherby. Close to 40 years ago, went with my buddy into the LGS. He was going to buy a Remington 700 in .22-250. Sitting on the shelf was a Vanguard in .243. Buddy made the mistake of picking it up and immediately fell madly in lust. Took every dime both of us had, but he got out of there with that gun and a 4X Redfield scope mounted on top... I think as we were both broke, the guy threw in a box of shells.

We went immediately to our quarry range and sighted in it. Easily Sub MOA.. Now here's where the "remarkable" part comes in. That gun has been hauled all over God's creation - been to Canada and "West" - dropped several time (once bad enough it dented the scope). I know there's been a dozen different loads shot through it. To this day, that scope is still sighted in perfectly - and has never been touched.

Like me - as we've gotten older - buddy needs more "scope".. but he's scared to death to touch it and I don't much blame him. ;) Thing is uncanny.

I have no interest In a 338. Now a good 7mm08, 25.06, or 30.06 is a whole nether story. With the exception of a 257 Weatherby I pretty much have the magnum thing out go my system. I've owned a bunch of magnum rifle but these days I like the mild kickers.
