I have NO idea if it's valid........but boy...........if it is.........:happy

All those electrons must be settled in the bottom. Maybe you should try storing em upside down.

Is it possible this is valid?????????????

Didn't work for me, wife keeps a big bag of old batteries for recycling, I have a box of brand new AA, the test was a complete failure.

I use a volt meter. Its not near as noisy as a bunch of batteries bouncing on the counter....

I tried this when I first heard it a couple years ago. I think there is "some" validity to it. I had "some" success. I think if you took Cap'n's voltmeter and a *bunch* of batteries - tested your results - and played with it extensively - you *might* be able to get it to work. There is some "technique" to it.

Erased all my replies.

OK, thanks.

Hey, notill, I wonder if Bucky's test will work on this battery??? ;)
(sorry, Buckney, I just couldn't resist)

Wasn't my test. But yeah. If you drop it from high enough. Let us know how it did. Make sure it hits on one end, though.

I think that has probably the same probabilities as blackjack. About a little less than 51%.

I like the 50/50 rule better. If you have a 50/50 chance of being right, 90% of the time you will pick the wrong 50% .

Really?

Well..........stupid is as stupid says, I guess!

Now I feel foolish.. I played with it for 30 minutes... No, I don't.. hell - I've done dumber s*(t than that.. (and I still think there is *some* validity to it). ;) If I have it figured right, with in the same brand and lot, a dead battery will bounce higher than a fully charged battery - the reason appears to be that as the battery discharges, the oxygen ions leave manganese oxide cathode and move to the zinc anode, changing the powdery zinc to hardened zinc oxide - the powdery zinc absorbs the impact of the drop and slowly returns to it's original position - the hardened zinc oxide collapses a bit with the drop and immediately 'springs back' to it's original position. Probably not enough to do a dead certain/every time analysis. But it was worth 30 minutes..

Would you use the dead one's for ducks and the charged one's for geese in a slingshot ? :bounce

Buckrub

Nah.

I'd use the dead ones for your wife's stuff, and the charged ones for mine!

(See the difference in the two sites I told ya about?) :wink

Yeah, I like this one........

The FIRST thing they do that invalidates their test is that they don't use the same type battery for the test.

Any "scientific" experiment would have been using the at least the same brand battery......if not ones from the same box.
