Whatever! I went to an estate sale yesterday and picked up a Case XX knife out of a kitchen drawer and paid a quarter for it. I've sold quite a few Case XX paring knives ... they sit for a while (not really fast movers), but eventually sell for $15-$25. Yesterday I found this Case XX "tomato" knife and picked it up. A few minutes ago I decided to take a couple pics and throw it up on eBay for $19.95, but decided to research it just in case since I've never found a tomato knife before (I guess it could be a filet knife also). It's nothing special ... 8 1/2" long (4 1/2" blade) and only a half-tang ... but it's still a Case.

DAMN! It seems these things have some sort of cult following or something because it's the same knife they made Freddy Krueger's glove out of for the movie "Nightmare on Elm Street"! I'm assuming they don't make them anymore as they're selling for $125-$150 on The Bay! Wow! Talk about just falling into it! I love my "job"! :D

Anything marked Case XX or Case with several dots behind it is worth picking up.

Yeah, the Case XX paring knives are fairly common and I've probably sold 6-7 of them. The last one I sold was a month ago for $22.95. I usually pick them up for $0.25 - $0.50. Not a huge money maker, but it's a decent profit margin for what I get them for. This one surprised me! There's really nothing special about it ... as far as knives go anyway.

Have my FIL's old Case 6344 medium.............can't bring myself to carry it. Not worth a lot to most folks.

Well, the bidding is up to $97.50 so far and there are still 3 1/2 days left in the auction. It's on 9 different watch lists at this point, so there may be a bidding war approaching. I sure hope so. At any rate, you can bet I'll be keeping an eye out for these silly things from here on out! Not bad for a 25-cent investment. ;)

I remember seeing those things and never could figure out what they were used for..

Also remember being at a small town auction - kids were selling off some of their parent's stuff.. Auctioneer held some kind of a little cast iron contraption. Bidding started at a dollar and went to $125. I was standing by one of the sons and ask, "What the hell was that thing?" Bill said, "I dunno - but I wish we had two." I left and never did find out what it was..

I'm getting ready to list a skillet I picked up a week or two ago. I'd never heard of them before, but it turns out they're fairly rare and are bringing some pretty decent coinage. After researching the company, I found out they (WAPAK) were only in business from 1903-1926 (when they went bankrupt). I guess I'll find out what this thing will bring over the next week or so.

What makes them interesting is the fact they made their pans from molds they bought from other manufacturers. This one has a "ghost" image under the WAPAK where they tried to cover up the word ERIE ... which was actually Griswold before they adopted the Griswold name. It's hard to see the ghost image with my crappy photography, but it's there.

What a coincidoink.. Was invited trout fishing with a "new" group of guys a couple weeks ago.. Their "camp" skillet is a Wapak. Guy that owns it is a retired history teacher.. got it from his mom. '03 - '26. He'll get a kick out of that.

Interesting stuff. I remember seeing the Indian head logo - but I'd forgotten what company it was. The "camp skillet" didn't have it.

I've had a few knife sets over the years and I really just don't understand the utility of them all. I consider myself fluent in kitchens and cooking. Santa bought us a set of 5 Cutco knives for Christmas and I haven't even touched my other German steel since then unless all my Cutco stuff is dirty.

I use the serrated knife for serrater jobs and the big ass chef knife for everything else.

So, why do I need a blade like that to cut a 'mater? I don't get it.

Yeah I get it. Valid point. Sorta like, I only use one setting on my camera for all shots..............

Well cool! Just had an auction close tonight on a small logo Griswold I picked up for $10 a couple weeks ago. Just turned $10 into $110 in the blink of an eye! That was fun! ;)

Just got an email from a dude in Australia asking about shipping if he wins the auction on that tomato knife. Says he sure hopes he will have the winning bid, but said he probably won't bid above $150.00! I can live with that! I swear, it amazes me what some people collect.
