I said I wouldn't do this.

But why did you pick on him? These are obscene numbers, and clearly a payoff for more than just speaking. BUT..........Hillary averages 216K PLUS per speech, and gave 51 of 'em in 2014 alone! I guess she took a vacation that one week.

According to the disclosure, Hillary Clinton delivered 51 speeches in 2014 and the first three months of 2015, earning more than $11 million. Her fees varied, but she earned as much as $315,000 for speaking to eBay in San Jose on March 11; she also collected $325,000 for speaking to the technology company Cisco in Las Vegas in August.

As for Bill? $226,400 average!

Bill Clinton’s fees rose over time. In 2012, her last year at the State Department, he earned more than $16.3 million for 72 speeches.
Bush is cheap!

I guess 'they all do it' is the acceptable answer. Funny but that's what my parents said about Richard Nixon when he got caught.

The only differnce here and the millions of dollars ex-politicians make as lobbyists and speakers is that this $100k fee was to speak to people who are disabled from fighting in a conflict that he sent them to. And if you don't see the wrong in that, then you must be pretty damned blind.

In fairness to Dubya, he does a lot of stuff for veterans and I've always liked the way he's stayed involved with veterans stuff. That doesn't make this one right though and he and his wife fucked up on this deal IMO.

And for the record, its disgusting the way all politicians leverage their time in office to make millions on stuff you know they voted for while in office.

So call it capitalism if you want. In this case I call it bullshit.

Did anyone notice the speech/event netted 2.5 million dollars (grossed 3.2 million)? Not that it makes any difference - either....

BarryBobPosthole

I may have misread, but I thought that was the annual net of those orgs, not the net for that event. Its still big money.

"But Chuck Jenness, the group's chairman, lists Bush as a "close friend" and said the Bush speech grossed $3.2 million".. I dunno.. and I don't care.. They shouldn't have booked him if they thought the fees were too high. They all do it.

Sounds to me like Bush raised 3.2 million for the vets group and only charged them 100k. He's a hero anyway he turns.
Funny how libs only tell part of the facts to make him look bad....

This doesn't affect me so I don't give a rat's ass.

Buckrub

Everything affects me, but I have to discuss with my rat the degree to which he is willing to give up body parts. Lately he's a bit raw for giving up so much of himself, so often.

We do need a special word though.........so we don't have to type so much......then when all these guys who say they don't give a rat's ass posts something about which they DO seem to give a big old rat's ass, we need to just say........I don't know, "hypocrite" sounds too harsh. How about "Kangaroo"???

DeputyDog

I'm not sure if I can be credited with the popularity of that phrase here. It's been one of my favorites for hunerds and hunerds of years. I like the terminology just fine.. I don't like "kangaroo" - but if that's what you want - I don't give a rat's ass.. and I grinned when I read it, DD. ;)

OK fine. How about "underpants". Or "domicile". Or "litigation".

I don't care. Any word. :laughing

I, personally, would not pay a plugged nickle to listen to ANY politician speak on ANY subject at ANY time or place. Most or all of these people have never had an original thought in their lives and never will and actually never STOP reiterating the same old bs. Politicians will adjust their 'message' according to the audience so people that pay to hear them speak are just getting whatever it is they want to hear. What a colossal waste of time and money!

Do you want some?

I've got a jar full that have ended up in my kid's piggy banks, but the banks won't change them in when we take in the rest of the change.
