In my local newspaper, yesterday....Robert Raben, a civil rights radical with close ties to Rep. Barney Frank(Dem.-Mass.), is coming here to attempt to change the name of our county to "Fannie Lou Hamer County"....sure, she made a name for herself here, during the civil rights era, but can you imagine the tremendous logistical expense of doing this???....a world-class museum is already planned for her in the north end of the county.
Geeezusakeerist, where does it end???!!!!!

Sunflower County....appropriately named for the Big Sunflower River, which runs right thru the middle of the county from north to south.

Yes, you certainly are....and, I have enough common sense to withold my REAL reply. ;)
But, while we're at it, let's change your county's name to Sharpton-Jackson County....that's pretty catchy, huh. ;)

No Muddy, a more appropriate name for his county would be Morris-Garfield County.

My county was named after Robert E. Lee's home. (Arlington). I guess we'll have to change the name of the cemetery while we're doing all this historical racial cleansing.

I'm in Polk County named after James K. Polk (11th President). But, we may be in trouble, the county seat is Bartow (15 mins south of me) named after Francis S. Bartow, the first Confederate officer to die in battle in the Civil War.

If my area wasn't invaded by yuppies sucking off the teat of excessive government spending, it'd still be like any other southern county. Alas, the almighty dollar triumphs over all! I guess I should complain too loudly. I benefited early in my career.

And as you can see, we're way ahead of the times.

"The north/south streets were named Oklahoma, Kansas & Missouri, and the east/west streets north of what is now Broadway were named for Union generals, while the east/west streets to the south were named for Confederate generals. These names were later changed; east/west streets are now identified by street numbers, and north/south streets are now named after trees. The original street names were changed to their present names around 1960.[5]"

I think we need to have the Civil War again. But this time, instead of bullets, we'll have a fishing tournament.
