Ooops, sorry, I thought you said "BJ"....in that case, "open" made sense....."close", not so much, since that would involve teeth. ;)

My guess to prevent serious volatility in the market. Notice most companies announce earnings after the close. If you watch after hour trading on a company that releases a miss the stock may be down 15%, on open it is down 7 or 8. It gives time for news, earning, and market data to be thought through and rational investing to take place. It also helps break the momentum of bad news creating a total meltdown limiting emotional investing.

Thanks Airbud I think your comment speaks to the theory of relativity. I'm not that smart but when you put a post in close proximity to a Thump post it makes one seem smarter, I think that is what Einstein's E=MC2 means.
