Revise so as not to sound so bragadoshish.
Sold a Sig AR and used the money to fund this new Colt 1911.
Had a S&W like the Captains, but traded that to a guy in FL for a 22 Colt SAA.
Just needed another Colt 1911 before Colt goes belly-up.

Nice lookin' pistol there Bubba. As you know, I've sold off 99% of my guns over the last few years. Well, all but two. I still have my carry pistol, but the only other gun I kept is my Colt Gold Cup National Match (in stainless). Lynn gave it to me as a birthday gift about 15 years ago and it's still in the box ... unfired.

When I was a kid, prolly 90% of the guns my uncle owned (and there were plenty) were heavily engraved and usually had custom grips (mostly ivory). He'd have drooled all over yours! But, different strokes and all that and I've personally never liked the look although I can surely appreciate a nicely done custom. Kind of like cars ... I have a high respect for nicely done customs, but me personally, I like 'em stock "appearing" ... or back in my street racing days ... we called 'em "sleepers"! ;)

I gots this one:

Where did it go Jerry?
I've got a couple of 1911's but no Colts.

Did the horse trade fall through? I suppose Colts are the top of the line in the 1911 as far as the classics go, but up at Bass Pro we have a Smith and Wesson "E" series 1911 that is as smooth and classy as any I've ever had. REALLY good workmanship and quality! 5640

Man, I really want a 1911 but really don't know much about them. I have been told to stay away from the compact or carry versions, is that true? I know I can't afford a Colt or Kimber but anybody have any suggestions for a decent mid range 1911.
