Looks like we gots an estate sale coming up this weekend that really looks interesting. They say the place is so packed with "junk" that the sale will be held for four days (they're usually two). The heading on the ad reads: 4-DAY LAKE-FRONT ESTATE SALE PACKED w/ OVER 70 YEARS WORTH OF ACCUMULATION!

There are hundreds and hundreds of books ... rooms full of them ... with a very large collection by Louis L'Amour, old WWII militaria, camping/fishing/hunting stuff, old camera equipment, musical instruments, pocket knives ... you name it, it's in there.

Heck there's not much of anything that's NOT in this house. They have over 700 photos attached to the ad and I'm itching to start digging through that stuff. One thing that really caught my eye is the cast iron. I just sold a Griswold Dutch Oven like the one shown for $200 and sold one of those large skillets for $225 just last week. My buddy and I are planning an early start and hope to be at the head of the line Thursday morning! I'm excited! ;)

Here are a coupl'a CI pics. (heck, even that old meat cleaver will bring $30)

The house is PACKED with antiques and it looks like NOTHING was ever thrown away through the years. This old shed also looks interesting. I talked to the guy running the sale and he said the shed hasn't been opened in 20-30 years, so they have to cut the lock off and haven't even looked inside yet, but will be getting to it sometime this week. I can't wait to dig through that thing! ;)

I thought Dutch Ovens had a lid that was concave so as to pile coals on top as well. Is "Tite-Top" Dutch oven just a different style?

When I was a kid, I was taught that the recessed top design was for outside fires; so you could put coals in the recessed lidf to "bake" food. The more "normal" style lid is to be used in ovens, where there aren't any coals.

Herb's got it right. The one shown above is for in-door cooking. That looks like a waffle iron there as well. I think those fetch a pretty penny. Jim, you probably know this. But, folks will just about kill for a CI bundt pan right now. Crazy money.

Yeah Buckster, depending on the brand, those cleavers may bring $5 ... or $100. As for those Stanley thermos' .. I've prolly thrown 15-20 of them away (not worth the shipping charges) except for one I found brand "new", still in it's original box. I buy the old thermos' for 50-cents - $2.00, and if in good condition, I can get $14-$15 bucks for the cups (not a huge seller), but I can get $17-$20 for the cap all day long. The silly thing is, you can buy new replacements from Stanley for $5 each! I guess people like the originals for some odd reason. I buy an old Proctor-Silex juicer almost every couple weeks for $2-$3. You can buy the whole thing on-line for $10-$15, but I break them down and can get $17-$20 bucks for just the reamer alone, $15-$18 for the funnel/disk and another $20-$25 for the motor! I first learned this with old outboard motors. I'd buy a "broken" kicker motor (5-15HP) for $50-$75 ... spend 30-40 minutes breaking it down and then sell the parts for $600-$800! It's crazy.

Yeppers Herb & K9 ... two different styles on the Dutch Ovens. Here's the one I just sold recently for $187.50:

CD, I have a French Roll pan listed right now that can bring $150-$200. What makes this one rare is the width of the divider. The narrow divider is more common, but this one is very hard to come by. (Note: The No. 11 is pretty common, this No. 15 is rare.)

Here's what the more common No. 15 looks like ... notice the divider (someone else has this one listed).

I'm not persactly sure of the size of that large skillet shown at the top ... but it looks an awful lot like the one I just sold last week for $225, and it was badly pitted. (some guy in Oregon bought it for his deer camp)
