But the whole VW debacle is funny to me. It's not something I can really share with anyone else except you dufuseses. Maybe it's because of the types (at least around here) of people drawn to VW are generally (don't get offended if yo have one) pretentious asshats.

I don't see a whole of VW's around. I mostly figured they were folks who wanted a BMW and didn't have the coin. It's hard to fathom a fraud on that scale. What was the company thinking?

No doubt I have a screw loose because I don't have a clue what's going on in this thread

Oh the Tiguans and other silly names are prolific around here. They talk about them and their fine German engineering and how very close they are to BMW in every way... just like the real thing!

What they did was pretty damn impressive, on a fraud scale. Pretty shitty behavior but well managed!

HEre's an article. And VW has already admitted fault and deception.

VW's and Subaru's are all the rage here. And LJ I think that the fact you're coming close to admitting you have a screw loose is a good sign. Admitting you have a problem is half the battle :D

VW just announced that it's not just the 500,000 cars in the US. It's 11,000,000 cars worldwide with an estimated cost of $7.3b to fix. That's before the regulators even start fining them.

The EPA is antibusiness, antijpbs, antiAmerican, and is unneeded. just ask any Republican.

Nah, it's obviously Planned Parenthood's fault. We should defund them until VW gets right.

VW's CEO just resigned. If this had been Toyota, he would have committed ritualistic suicide. Damn shame.

Man, I love those old Karman Ghia's. I ran a couple of VW bugs, but a good buddy of mine had a Ghia. Cool rides.

What I do find funny is the plans for criminal prosecution for the VW execs that perpetrated this scam (that killed no one or even injured any one) but the GM execs that deliberately continued to install ignition switches that they absolutely knew were killing people (120+ or so) are gonna get off scot free. I guess it's a more heinous crime to put a little more pollutant in the air than to actually take someones life to save a few cents per vehicle. Can anyone explain the logic (?) or even the thinking (?) behind this decision?

Nope, Johnboy. People are morons.

When VW finally releases the "fix" for this. To control the ECU module in the cars to control the emissions as advertised, the stated MPG of these vehicles will decrease significantly.

Then... amusingly (to me) each person will have to decide which is more important. The mileage they got, 45+mpg, or the wonderful environment. Will they put their money where their mouth is? Will you pay more to help the environment or will you remain horribly selfish and save lots of money at the pump.

Mostly, they'll join a class action law suit against VW.

LJ3

That should offset their loss on MPG :) I don't know if it's true or not but read somewhere that VW had already stashed away 6.something billion for the class action. Doesn't seem possible bu you never know.
