Do people REALLY buy these things?

I know they've been around forever, so I'm sure they must sell the shit out of them, but do people buy them because they buy into the bullshit? Or are they like comic books? Read purely for the entertainment value? I just stopped by the grocery store and as I stood in the check-out line, I glanced at the front page of the National Enquirer next to the register. The huge title said:

Hillary: 6 Months To Live!

And just below that was:

Cruel Bill Forces Her To Stay On Campaign Trail

WTF????

Ha ha ha! Just for grins, I decided to look at some of their covers on the net. It looks like they must fall back on the "X-amount of years/months" to live gig when things get slow! Dang, EVERYBODY'S ready to die! I think they're due for a change of subject and a bit more originality! ;)
