I just read a story recently about Wisconsin and the effects of Scott Walker's politicizing of the DNR in Wisconsin. Long story short, he's hamstrung just about any real efforts at conservation in the name jobs and economy. Then this one popped up this morning.
The irony part is, this is the very part of Wisconsin that Aldo Leopold wrote about in probably the best book ever written about conservation and the benefits of it.
There's plenty of people on either side of this issue, but not many leaders with a common sense approach to using resources without destroying the whole damn place. Leopold advocated just that.

It will take a long time to reverse a lot of this, when we finally wake up and decide we have to.

Aldo is my personal hero and I like to think of myself as a "conservationist" vs. an "environmentalist" are a result of reading "A Sand County Almanac".
