Captain

Hahaha. A REAL for true accidental Bucky shot.
Two guys were taking a picture at the same time. One with my phone and one with his. And a happy accident picture appeared on my phone.

Sucker left Polkton and crawled over to Peachland in between pictures.....

Only took him 11 minutes.

Captain
11-27-2015, 10:18 PM
Yea, and if you notice in that last shot he crawled all the way to Pageland SC in a matter of a few more minutes. Whenever I'm in VERY limited service area the GPS feature on the camera does that.

Super fast dead monster deer.

Ours, seldom move after dying. That's neat. I'd like to shoot one of those.

I was wondering the same thing Barry...muley in carolina?

BarryBobPosthole

No, I mean he looks like a real mule. That dish face and long snoot that the mature bucks get makes their ears look bigger too.

He looked like a damn Mule chasing that doe through the woods. He was twice her size. He stopped when I grunted at him. She kept going. He only gave me a straight on shot to his neck at about 125 yards. I settled on his neck knowing he was only going to let that doe get so far and he would be off again. I touched it off and he dropped and was DRT. When a 300 Remington Ultra connects to a neck they don't move.
I gave the cape off this one and the big 11 pointer I shot a few weeks ago to a taxidermist friend of mine as he needs them for big deer where people have ruined there capes. I'm not going to mount any more. Got two houses full of them now. When we skinned him out last night the bullet was just under the skin near the rump. I have it in the truck. Perfect mushroom.
What most impressed me about this buck when I walked up on him was the size of his neck and shoulders. He weighed 218. But I think he was bigger than that. He has probably been chasing does for a few weeks and probably has lost 15 to 20 pounds. He was 518mm wide, whatever that is?

You drove to Canada to have him measured?!?

Captain
11-28-2015, 08:38 PM
I know right? OUR state biologists want us to turn in one lower jaw bone on all deer, and take measurements of the "horns". They give us the equipment and instructions on how to measure and record. The measurement tape is in mm. I don't know why but that's their requirements.
I guess there is some way to convert that inside spread?

Captain
11-28-2015, 08:42 PM
518mm equals 20 25/64 inches.

518mm equals 20 25/64 inches.

Sheesh! You don't have to milk every MM out of the dang measurements! Just settle for a simple 20 5/8" spread! :D

The taxidermist I give the capes to called today and said it was the largest neck measurement deer he's even gotten for NC. It measured 24 inches at the smallest part of the neck (right where the head and neck meet) out of the thousands and thousand of NC/SC deer he's mounted over the last 40 years he's only had 2 deer that measured 23 inches but never one that went 24 inches.
He told me he has mounted some for the boys that go to Wisconsin and shoot those pen raised deer that would measure that size but never a wild Southern deer. He's trying hard to talk me into mounting this thing.

Cap, nice shooting. Keep showing them buck and you are going to be the reason I finally get a lease in NC... sometime.... in the future.... when I have money.... Ha!!!!
Is that the same taxidermist that you took me back in the day and will talk you head off?

Captain
11-30-2015, 05:23 PM
No! I don't go over there unless I got a half a day to waste..
This is the feller that's I've hunted with for 35 plus years.

Nandy
11-30-2015, 06:54 PM
I can attest to that. Last time I went there back in the day I swear he was blocking my way out!!! lol! But he is a real nice guy..., well, we know that...
