No idea what your post is about, but it reminded me of a tv survival show the other night, and they started a fire, using unrolled tampons....pretty cool:

I'm stuck at the farm keeping water tanks clear of ice and hay to the cows.
We have about a half inch of ice so far. Some of it freezing rain which is bad. I HEAP rather have sleet or snow.
Looks like I'm stuck here for a couple of days. :-(
But I'm prepared. 6476

Just started snowing here about half an hour ago. I'm thinking bean soup tomorrow as I can still keep my Mrs.. warm even if we lose power.

As wives go, My understanding is the European models are furrier and warmer during such times.

I just got back from an errand and the temperature read-out in the truck said 72 degrees. We had a bit of light rain this morning, but it moved through and we have blue skies now. It is a bit breezy though, so things may change. As soon as Lynn gets home from work, we're loading up and heading to Miami Beach for a few days. (weekend getaway for my birthday) Should be back by Monday night.

You guys hunker down and stay out'ta that stuff. Oh ... and make sure you keep it up THERE where it belongs! ;)

My fave, Fogo de Chão for lunch tomorrow, then Lynn has all the other eateries picked out in advance for the weekend. I may pack on a couple pounds! ;)

I can personally recommend the ceviche, and the scenery, at the Ritz in South Beach.

I buy Tupelo Honey up in the pan handle when it's in season. There's an old guy (Preston Bozeman) who's been selling the stuff for like 25 years on the side of Hwy. 98 up in the Florida pan handle. The stuff can be eaten by diabetics (he's a diabetic) and it won't crystallize when it gets old. It's GOOD stuff!

One time I stopped to talk with Mr. Bozeman about 10-12 years ago and ended up spending 2-3 hours sitting there chatting. He's a super sweet old guy (80 something years old) and is of the generation that's rapidly dying off. I could have stayed twice as long just to listen to his life's stories. Ha ha! He used to be a "traveling salesman" and he would tell me about the days he was a total heathen. I remember he once told me, "All those old stories you hear about traveling salesmen ... they're all true!" ;)

Then one day he found religion and he'll never hesitate to preach a sermon if you let him. Interesting, interesting old guy and he's been on that little dirt lot at the crossroads every Friday, Saturday and Monday if weather permits (he's in church Sunday). EVERYBODY knows him in that area and a couple years ago, Lynn and I went to Pensacola for the weekend and decided to avoid I-75/I-10 and take the "scenic route" up Hwy. 98. I saw him at his usual spot and stopped to introduce Lynn and to chat a while. He sells Tupelo Honey (IF there's still a supply) as well as Mayhaw Jelly. I know he's really getting up there in age and won't be around forever, but it will be a real loss when he's gone. He's like a fixture in those parts ... AND he drives a Toyota! :D

Yeah. We've got about 5" so far. But the main engine for this thing is a low that's just forming off the NC coast now. Chats when nor'easter kicks in with winds and possibly thunder snow. Could be 20" by morning with another foot by midnight tomorrow.

Wow. The CD I have is them playing with several other Irish musicians. Some of their music is too esoteric, but I like the traditional music they do. I know Johnboy is a big fan too. I believe he said his wife is Irish. I guess you could say as a Scot, he married up!

I got about 10" so far (that's what she said). That's 3 shovelings. Took a ride around to see whaddup and it was me, popo, plows and dominoes vehicles. Prolly more pizze guys than anything else. Pretty funny.

While my northern VA brothers are getting pounded with snow....

I just got back from a local brewery with my Neighbor (the k9 officer). We had 24 hour early access to the brewery's newest release ... It was goooooodddd stuff Maynard.

No snow. 49 degrees. But rain and wind like I've never seen. I can hear the wind and rain over the TV and the blower on the gas fireplace.

It's for real a hurricane.

Us northerners just love to see all the media crazy's during a little snow storm, first off it's January- daaaaaaa,
You get snow in the winter !!!!!
We have 58" so far this month, no schools closed, people go to work everyday, it's pretty normal.
All I can say is "Pussies !!"

Chicken Dinner
01-23-2016, 10:17 AM
The difference is we might get 20" in an average winter. So, it just doesn't make sense to gear up to deal with getting that much all at once.

We'll get that up here, but mostly in the spring. It's rare up here too, snow is usually very wet and heavy.
Neat to see lightening through a heavy snow fall.
