We went to a Thai restaurant in Miami for dinner tonight. It was highly rated on the internet, so I was a bit excited. When we walked in, I noticed there were no Thai waiters/waitresses and the place was full of "white people". Not a good first impression. Once our order was brought to the table, the reality hit. What a total disappointment. Everything was bastardized and "Americanized" and it was one of the crappiest meals I can remember having in a long, LONG time. I looked around and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meal, so the only thing I could think of is, whatever they were eating, they had no clue what-so-ever what it was SUPPOSED to taste like. I guess we should'a stuck with Cuban. Bummer. :pissed

Thai food served by migratory Snow birds.

Sounds like an adventure!

Pad means that crap is so greasy and slimy you have to shove a maxi-pad up you butt to keep it from slipping out in your chair.

Pad basically means "fried or stir fried" the Thai means "Thai Style" ... fried noodles. It's one of my all-time favorites. You won't find it in the Thai countryside, but will in the cities. It's probably one of the most popular "touristy" Thai meals. I LOVE "good" Pad Thai myownfineself..

Hahahahahaha.....reminded me of seeing Ray Ramano in Las Vegas. He did a riff on Olestra and the fact they had a warning on Lays potato chips that said it might cause anal leakage.

Lynn went to see Ray Ramano in Tampa one year while I was out of town and said he was hilarious! I had no clue who he was at that time. It was before "Everybody Loves Raymond".

Pad Thai ... generally comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, pork or tofu (or any combination). GOOD stuff Maynard!

BTW, I always ask them to bring me their condiment tray and add my own mixture of stuff to tweak the flavor to my personal taste preference.

When it comes to Thai noodle dishes, I'm more of a Pad See-Ew guy. Usually, with pork.

CD, I'm pretty much with you on noodle dishes ... I'll admit, Pad Thai (pork) is my favorite, but Pad See Ew is my second choice. I like it with beef ... or second choice pork.

This is how I like it in Thailand (forgot what the greens are called here):

But here in the states, it's usually with broccoli.

My local place does it like the first pic. I've always referred to it as "Chinese broccoli" and it's one of my favorite part of the dish.

Yep, that's what I call it also, I just can't remember the Thai name for it. We buy it at the Oriental markets in Tampa or Orlando.

I have two favorite dishes that I'd almost kill for if I could find them here in the states, but they just do not exist anywhere I've found. My number one, all-time favorite is Khao-Kah-Moo.

This is how it always looks where ya' buy it in the old "home country". I like it when they drop the boiled eggs right in the liquid with the pork.

My second favorite is (Northern, Lao style ... NOT Southern/Bangkok style) Kai Yad Sai (a type of pork-stuffed omelette), but you just can't find it here in the states. Heck, it's even hard to find in Thailand as it's only made in the homes, not on the streets. It's labor intensive and even hard to find restaurants that make it. My ex-wife made the best I've ever had. When I go to Thailand, if I'm up north in Udo(r)n, I know a couple who own a small hotel and I always stay there when in town. The have a restaurant in the hotel and whenever I'm there, the wife goes back into the kitchen, shoves the regular cook aside and makes one for me every morning. It's as close to the ex's I've ever been able to find. Lynn makes a killer (regular) Thai Omelette and it's as good as anything I've had in country.

Dang, now I'm HUNGRY! :(

Looks delicious. I've got a Lao place a couple of miles away that's always good for some good food and a couple of Beer Lao's. They have an all you can eat lunch buffet we can hit if you're ever up this way. (It's usually more than 50% Asian customers.). Lots of good Thai around here and some average strip mall places. My favorite is the one that caters to the Thai Embassy. If you're into Vietnamese, we have the Eden Center which is an old strip mall anchored by an Asian super market that has completely converted to most Vietnamese shops.

I'm on the way!! Well, maybe not, we're in Miami and I assume you still have snow on the ground ... but I'll hold you to that promise! ;)

As for the Vietnamese ... we'll occasionally hit a Banh Mi place, but we have Pho probably every couple weeks or so.

BTW, you had me hooked with the Beerlao offer! Luckily we're checking out today and headed home tonight. Odd you should mention that ... here's my normal snack while hanging out in the hotel room, but I'm down to my last batch of boiled peanuts and the 6-pack of Beerlao is empty. :(

Time to wrap it up here and put my ol' 'puter away. Gonna shit, shower and shave ... then pack up and head out for Fogo de Chão for a major pig-out session ... then head back home to the old grind. Youse dufes be good. Catch ya' later.

Man, love the beans sprouts... one day we went to get some pad thai and they did not have the bean sprouts and I almost sent the food back and left...
