I really like this matchup in college basketball. I think it would work well in football too, but non-conference scheduling for football is likely far too effed up for it to ever happen.
Hopefully there'll be more of these next season. To me it kind of has the post season flavor and lets you see some good competitive non conf games that are pretty rare in the pre-season.
