Bad day for shootin' rabbits.

We had those bad storms come though with a ton of rain and high wind. We started to cancel but pushed through. Ended up with 14 rabbits. In 3 hours and then round 2 of the floods came in and we called the day. Hammerhead killed 4 and was pretty on with his shooting. 6543

Yea, JB that hunt has gone on now for many years. I was so glad you got to be a part of it. Wish you could make it back down for another one.

Well, Cap, we beat ya by one rabbit....we got 15 in 4 hours....shoulda killed 40, but we were hunting some of the swampiest, thickest, nastiest briars and sheeit-azz bushes(that's my name for them) on my place....the 9 beagles hunted like champs, but really had a difficult time with the water and undergrowth....walking thru that stuff was miserable, and open shots were rare....but, we had a blast, anyway!!!
I fixed a big breakfast at the cabin about 7am, for the 5 of us....then, after the morning hunt, we feasted on a big pot of hot venison chili....life is always good, when hunting with family and friends!!!!!

You beat us in the food department as well. Folks that hunt with me know to stop at Bojangles before they get here. :D
We jumped a lot more than we killed, but with 2" of rain on top of my already flooded rabbit thickets, we lost a lot of trails.
One thing worth noting every rabbit we killed were cottontails. We did not kill a single bluetail.
Glad y'all had a good hunt. Wish we could have gotten in another hour or two but we got all we could out of the day with the weather we had.

It's a tradition for us to hunt the swamp for our first hunt, each year....consequently, we killed all swampers/cane-cutters, today....we had two that weighed over 5 pounds....that's a big-azzed rabbit !!!

And, I only cook for the first hunt of the year....after that, they better bring some beenie weenies, potted meat, and crackers. ;)

I used to have beagles.. had a hell of a bitch line.. When we bought the business I had bird dogs, coon hounds and beagles. Something had to go. Kept the bird dogs. Our rabbits have made a huge comeback her in the past couple years. Just told a buddy of mine that had dogs when I did, "You know - you really *need* a couple beagles." and he said, "I was just thinking *you* need a couple beagles." ;)

When a beagle is on the loose, there isn't a safe trash can within ten miles.

I love 'em, but I also hate some of their bullshit. I raised and hunted them a lot when I was in high school. You had to be fast enough to shoot a rabbit before they caught it much of the time. Good times! Glad I don't own any!
