Sitting around watching the bowl game, one of my buddies told us guys about his recent prostate situation....his PSA went up, so he was referred to a specialist....ten biopsies were taken, and only one of them came back suspect.

He and his wife, then met with the doctor to hear his prognosis....fortunately, the doctor told them, in his opinion, there was no need to worry, but he wanted to do a follow-up in 3 months....he prescribed some supplemental medications, and told the wife to make sure he took them, and be supportive.

However, as a precaution, the doctor recommended that he (for lack of a better word) "pleasure himself" a minimum of 20 times over the next 30 days....he said his wife, who is just a bit ditsy, spoke up and said, "I don't have to help with THAT, do I???" ;)

No wonder I don't have prostate problems! ;)

Funny story. I have a doctor buddy here (retired now) who was also my personal doctor before I started using the VA. We'd hunt and fish locally, but one time I talked him into going to Ohio with me for deer season. He was immediately hooked and became a regular. One night we were sitting in the cabin planning the next day's hunt and somehow a conversation came up about prostate checks. I had one regularly (HE was MY doctor) but my Ohio buddy (who is 10 years older than me) had never had one. (this was prolly at least 15 years ago) My doc went out to his truck, grabbed his black bag, brought it in the cabin, slipped on a rubber glove and told my buddy to "drop trou and bend over!" He gave him a prostate exam right there in deer camp! From there on out, the deer camp prostate exam became an annual thing! ;)

Ha! Yeah, it's one of those "difficult to tell" stories, but ya' just kinda-sorta had to be there. I will say, ol' Doc kept his professionalism evident and took the matter seriously.

Take it seriously, for sure. Real good friend of mine would never get a prostate exam - too embarrassed or whatever. Anyway, he died from prostate cancer.

I have one annually (as well as anally!) ... and started many years ago.
