Believe it or not ... I sell a ton of those on eBay and pick 'em up at estate sales whenever I find one in good condition.

A few weeks ago, I bought one and in the owner's desk drawer, I actually found an overhaul kit (I never even knew they existed) and it sold in a matter of a couple days. I suppose SOME people still use pencils. Another HUGE seller is an electric pencil sharpener. The Panasonics fly off the shelf ... Boston, not so much.

We wear out 3 or 4 of those Boston sharpeners a year in my classroom.

Thump will say that's why they have that little blue pill. ;)

Once you get as old as P-hole, SUMPIN' has to put lead in his pencil! ;)

CD, I run across 'em all the time. I only buy the really clean ones, but if you don't care if it's real purty or not, I can prolly grab one for under a buck. Shipping wouldn't be outrageous. Heck, it would be my cost to you. ( Truuuuust meeeee ;) ) Normally the only problem is the chrome gets a thin coating of surface rust. It doesn't affect the operation, just the appearance.

B/S ... back when I was in school, us guys would wear one'a those things out in about a week. Man-o-man, you wouldn't believe how often my pencil lead would break and need resharpening! 'Course, mind you, those were the days of micro-mini skirts and the pencil sharpener was always at the front of the classroom. There'd always be an endless line of guys up there. :D

I'm in for a cheap, beat up one at those rates. I just want to install it in my shop anyway.

That's where I usually find them CD ... mounted in the garage. I think that's why they're usually a bit rusted ... not bad, just not clean/shiny chrome like the ones I find that have spent their whole lives in the house. Of course, now that I'm searching for one, they'll become as rare as hen's teeth! ;)

If it weird I could smell the pencil shavings when I saw that pic?

What kills me is I've probably thrown away 50 or more of those things. Some times I'd just replace the guts with overhaul kit and other times I just didn't feel like messing with it and just tossed them. Who knew there would ever be a market for them??? I'm surprised there is as to be brutally honest, they aren't very well built and don't have a particularly long life span.

To clarify, they really don't bring a lot of money, but they sell easily. The average one brings maybe $10. A real nice one will bring $20-$30 and I saw a new one in the box go for $50. They're all over the map pricewise actually. I've seen them sell for $7-$8 one day, and the next day an identical one will got for $20. I'd have to say the average is $10-$20 depending on condition.

Here's one in mint condition (no box) that sold for $40.
