... do you feel any older today? ;)

Question: Was it you that was a Stroppe Bronco fan? Someone mentioned it here years ago and for some reason I was thinking it was you. If not, it was SOMEBODY here.

I got an eMail from my very close buddy Willie Stroppe (Bill Jr.) today letting me know his mother passed away today. She was 94 years old and a beautiful lady. In a way, her passing marks the end of an era for me as I could always picture she and Bill sitting in their living room as Willie and I were making plans to find some sort of trouble to get into that evening.

Anybody who doesn't know who Bill Stroppe is, the following is a pretty good synopsis of his life. We lost another major "old-schooler" 20 years ago, and now mom. This getting old and losing people around me is starting to suck. :(

Here's a nice read about Bill if anybody's interested. I don't want to bore anyone, it's just that with mom's passing, some old memories are flooding in of all the time I spent in the Stroppe hauler years ago. :(

Is this the one you're talking about?
Took this at a recent side trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame museum.

Before anyone blows me any shit about the orientation of the pic, I don't know how to rotate them when I post them from my phone.

Ok, I had to clean up the "Bwana's School of Picture Posting" mess for you ... 'course, now P-hole's post makes no sense. :)

That's "Big Oly" ... it is a Bronco by Stroppe, but it's the one driven by Bill and Parnelli Jones in Baja. The "Big Oly" name comes from their sponsor at the time. "Olympia Beer". Here's the story on that one: http://www.bajabronco.com/BigOly.shtml

Stroppe built a series of Broncos for Ford, similar to the later "Eddie Bauer" Bronco, but I believe the Stroppe Bronco was more performance based and the Eddie Bauer was more luxury based. Here's what the Stroppe Bronco looked like (it's a huge collector's item now).

A friend of mine had a Ford Bronco (pretty sure it was a '70) that we drove in places I never thought a vehicle would go. It was an awesome vehicle that had just the basic engine, tranny, transfer case. The tires were off road for that time but weren't overly agressive. It was just a handy little truck.
