I almost forgot to mention that Birddog and I fished on Friday like the good Catholic boys we ain't.
We hit the pit we call the "Y" on the almost eighth anniversary of the day I caught Matilda, the 10.2 pounder. No Matilda that day though. Just ten water moccasins that kept our heads on a swivel all day. The owner has sold off some land and the new owner did some dozer work right on the edge of the upper end of the pit and must have disturbed a passel, or is that passle, of genuine float on top, stinky ass water moccasins that swam around us all damn day. And neither of us with no gun. We vowed to go back with a 410 and do some damage some time this summer, us being the can't abide snakes individuals we are.
And oh yeah, we caught a passel of bass too. Or is that passle? Got sunburnt. Blew the walleye whistle a few times, and it was a gorgeous day.

The word is "passel" ... if you're talking about Cappy's feminine fishing shirts, it's "pastel". ;)

I'll bet he wears Hai Karate when he wears those shirts.

Saw my first snake of the year out fishing yesterday. Snakes almost take the fun right out of summer for me. I wish there weren't so stinking many of them around here. Glad you got into some fish BBP. With that report I guarantee those fish would be safe from me as I wouldn't go anywhere near a pond full of swimming snakes.

Make that swimming "poisonous" snakes. ;)

I took a pic of a mocassin, laying across a log the other day at Chicot, but couldn't post the pic because he was too big to fit onto the screen. ;););)

I saw my first snake the other day too. Was picking up meth lab trash and there was a small Massasauga rattlesnake next to it.

We have one similar to yours we call a ground rattler. They are the ones you have to watch for because they are well camo'd and they like the kind of woods we lke to deer hunt in.

We have the big velvet tails and diamondbacks here but I've never seen one in the wild. I have killed a few little grey ground rattlers though.

According to Wikipedia it's the same snake, just a regional name for it.

Part of Montana is snakeless. I would move there and live there in a heartbeat except for one little detail. While it is snake free it is infested with grizzly bears.

That appears to be a genuine Mr No Toes.

Is that a hoe? My grandma was hell on snakes with a hoe. Saw her decapitate a chicken snake with one when I was about five and I've never forgotten it.

Could be a hoe I suppose ... but how do you tell the males from the females? It could be a pimp! ;)

Nope that's a cattle prodding stick I keep in the gator. I tried to hold the snake and make a picture but it was to long and I couldn't get a good picture. So I threw him down and held him with the walking stick long enough to make Big Sky a picture.

That's not a moccasin is it?

Sure looks like one to me. It's hard to see the base of the head in that pic, but I'd have to go with moccasin.

Looking at its tail, I'd say no.

Don't know. Still looks like one to me, but I'd like a better angle/view of the head. Here's a comparison.

He spread his head out and struck at me a couple of times, and the inside of his mouth was white as cotton. I tried to get a picture of it but he was pretty pissed off so instead of pushing my luck I chunked him back in the pond.

I cropped this picture and it shows his head a little better. I made this picture when I picked him up and tried to hold him for a picture but he was too big and too pissed off. So I had to drop him. You can see the "pits" on each side of his head here much better.

Handling those stinky old water moccasins will make you smell like a pair of 5x panties on a hot summer day.

Guess I'm lucky, I don't have any experience with 5X panties..... :D
