The comments are funny on that site/

Just in case you think this 1.5c tax per ounce is reasonable affordable or small a two liter bottle of coke will have about a 33% tax on it.

I'm against any form of new tax. Regardless what the cause is. There's plenty of tax money out there if the politicians would cut the waste. I will vote against any new tax and any candidate that votes in favor of them. REGARDLESS.

Same crap, different product. No matter where you go, you'll run into this bullshit. I love it here when I have to pay a "tourist tax". WTF? I ain't no frigging tourist! I was born here and I LIVE here. As a double whammy, some of that money goes into building, improving or maintaining ball stadiums and the like. Double WTF!!! I don't go to ball games and will never set foot in one of those stadiums I'm forced to pay for. Now, when they stick a tax on something like, say cigarettes ... I could care less, I don't smoke! Back to the tourist tax ... it ain't limited to here ... go to Spain and see how far they'll dig into your pockets at the local hotel!

The point is, if they need the money, they'll get it someplace. If not sodas ... they'll stick it on candy bars or sumpin'.

Heck, look at all the fees and taxes tacked on to your cell phone bill, or your cable bill.

Dang, I rented a car on our trip last week and got a good rate (also known as T&M). That is, until they added all the "fees" to the price they initially quoted me! Concession Recovery Fee, VLF Recovery Fee, CFC Fee, LIC Fee, SEC Fee, Trip Saver Fee, LDW Fee, Energy Surchage Fee, Etc, Etc, Etc. .... oh, and don't forget the TAXES! (BTW, those listed fees are real, you can look 'em up) They're as bad as the airlines these days. Buy your ticket, then they'll tell you what you'll need to pay EXTRA for an actual seat, with a surcharge for the air you'll breathe during the flight! :angryfire

This is actually a perversion of tax policy as its not about the actual revenue. I'm sure the revenue helps, but they've decided that sodas are making us fat and want to discourage folks from drinking them by making it more expensive. Same with cigarette taxes and those taxes in plastic bags at the grocery store.

And I qoute...

"I see the progressive socialists have found a way around the national voters choice in many areas. Take gun control, they cannot get national legislation so they are now targeting local areas. The Supreme court upholding the local assault weapon ban legislation yesterday means they will now push the agenda in many more areas and they are usually doing it without referendums going to the voters. Same is now happening with food. The people can change these measures back with proper voting choices but I highly doubt that will happen. In short time they will just accept what is dealt to them and the next generation (in 20yrs) will have no clue to what freedoms their parents had that they now don't have."
