Hey got a text from Julie and they are in a hurry up and wait mode.
Guess they are running behind this morning.
Will update when I know more.

Yeah but... did she make the poor bastard a brownie?

Chicken Dinner
07-11-2016, 10:47 AM
I doubt it. Wimmins got no sense of humor when it comes to health issues.

Captain
07-11-2016, 11:33 AM
He is in surgery now. She said no lymph nodes involved. Surgery should take about 4 hours.

Captain
07-11-2016, 11:39 AM
And I sorta kinda doubt she made the brownies. I'd ask but don't know her well enough. Don't want to be removed from the " text updates". :D

She said no lymph nodes involved.

This is a good thing right?

Chicken Dinner
07-11-2016, 11:59 AM
From what little I know, no lymph nodes are an indication that it hasn't spread. Makes sense based on Barry's comment that they thought taking the kidney is all that would be necessary.

LJ3
07-11-2016, 12:24 PM
Correct. No lympn nodes means it's likely the cancer is localized. I would imagine he'll still get at least radiation treatments or chemo, maybe both.

Captain
07-11-2016, 01:52 PM
Still in surgery and things are going well so far.
No lymph nodes is a good thing. Means it ain't spread.

It'd be funny if the kidney they remove is the one that makes him a bleeding heart liberal :)

True story. I've got a buddy whose fiancé had a brain tumor. After the operation, they broke up as she said they cut out the part of her brain that loved him.

Just got this text from Mrs Posthiole.
"Kidney is out! Dr is closing, shouldn't be too much longer Barry is doing great"

That explains what happened to my first ex-wife. :D

More likely they removed the part of her brain that prevented her from being able to see. Poor woman prolly shit herself when she saw you for the first time!

Great news! Those kidneys are prolly all swelled up from over use for all these years. It's probably good his liver wasn't involved.

BOOM! That's about as good as could be hoped for! Did they take the whole kidney just to be safe?

Captain
07-11-2016, 04:27 PM
From what I understand LJ they did. But I've not heard that for sure. I know that was the plan. Unless something changes when they were inside.

Little old kidney stones might have alerted him to an early diagnosis of of a potentially life threatening situation. Wonder if the stones were a result of this?

From what Posthole told me the kidney stones were not really a "true" kidney stone. It was actually blood and matter from the cancer drying and moving through his system and they acted like kidney stones. Having the "stones" back to back is why they did the CT scan that found the cancer. I'm sure Posty can explain it much better when he is up to it.

Thumper
07-11-2016, 07:46 PM
I talked to him before his surgery and asked the same question. I may not have understood correctly, but I think he said the "stones" were actually dried/hardened blood clots caused by the cancer on the kidney. (Or something like that)

Heck, now that I look, I guess that's actually pretty much what you said.

Just heard from Mrs. Posthole.
"Last update today , I hope , Barry is back in his room and doing ok he is sleepy (duh) has a little nausea. But otherwise is fine , thanks for all the prayers and well wishes, they are very much appreciated"
I'll try to check in tomorrow midday and update.

07-12-2016, 05:33 AM
or maybe I'll update myself! hey y'all! Every day is gonna get better from here on out. can't tell you how much I appreciate you all. here's the update I got from the surgeon about 8 last night.
the kidney was removed laproscopically so I'll have less of a hill to climb from a pain perspective. on morphine every three hours for now and its staying ahead of it pretty well. i've slept off and on all the time since surgery but I'm going to try to dtay awake for a few hours starting now. he didn't have to take any lymph nodes or the adrenal glands or anything adjacent to the kidney as the cancer was confined to the kidney. that's good news. he wants me today on my feet and possibly home tomorrow. scans every three months for a year and then twice a year for five. normal life expectancy if there's no reccurence. i think chances of that are about 80%. best possible thing I could hope for and I think those odds increase as time goes by. pathology report in about a week and he'll know more then.
sorry for the jibber jabber writing. Sister Morphine is giving me technicolor dreams and has diminished my typing skills it seems.
more when I can!

It sounds like you'll be home eating kidney bean salad in no time! ;)

Sounds like everything went smooth as silk, but take my advice and get OUT of there the second you get the chance. Hospitals are the nastiest places on earth and the longer you're there, the easier it is to end up with something you didn't arrive there with! Trust me on that one!

Glad all went well and you're on the mend. Get home so you can get back to your SD'ing! ;)

Man it's good to see you checking in.

I guess they are waiting on the path report to decide if you are going to do any chemo or radiation?

quercus alba

I've seen the GH prayers work too many times to deny it.

I talked to the Doc today and all I had to do was walk every hour and a half, pee and fart, and he said he'd cut my orders to go home. I accomplished all three (although the fart hurt like hell to push out). I'm off the morphine and have managed the pain on Narco whatever that is. I feel so much better, although it hurts like hell to laugh, cough, or generally move around. But that'll be better soon too so I ain't complaining.
