Just got this message from our cruise line. I have to admit I pretty much expected it, but we had our fingers crossed. We were supposed to spend two days in Istanbul, but I guess it's now been nixed due to the government unrest. At least we'll now have two full days in Athens to see the sites. Only one stop in Turkey now ... Kusadasi (Ephesus) and the rest of our time will be in Italy and (mostly) Greece.

As a result of ongoing unrest in the region and after a thorough review, we have decided to cancel all port calls to Istanbul for the remainder of 2016. For your sailing, this means we have replaced our overnight port call to Istanbul with an additional day in Athens, as well as added calls to Mykonos and Rhodes. :(

Greece is more your style anyway.

Actually, we have a Greek community here (largest Greek population in the country) and go to the sponge docks to get authentic, Greek food quite often. It's a real treat for us. So, we don't mind hitting Greece, but for Lynn and I both, the highlight of this trip was going to be Istanbul. We were going to be there for 2 days.

Our revised itinerary is as follows:

Date/ Day/ Port/ Arrival/ Departure
27 Sep 00 Venice, Italy 16:00
28-Sep 01 At Sea (Adriatic Sea)
29-Sep 02 Katakolon (Olympia), Greece 08:00 15:00
30-Sep 03 Piraeus (Athens), Greece 08:00 overnight
01-Oct 04 Piraeus (Athens), Greece overnight 18:00
02-Oct 05 Mykonos, Nisos Mykonos, Greece 08:00 18:00
03-Oct 06 Rhodes, Nisos Rhodos, Greece 08:00 18:00
04-Oct 07 Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey 08:00 18:00
05-Oct 08 Thíra, Nisos Thíra (Santorini), Greece 07:00 16:00
06-Oct 09 Argostólion, Nisos Kefallinia, Greece Noon 18:00
07-Oct 10 At Sea (Adriatic Sea)
08-Oct 11 Venice, Italy 13:00 overnight
09-Oct 12 Venice, Italy 07:00

BTW ... I know what you were insinuating, so just go ahead and bite me! ;)

I was in Istanbul a few years ago. I don't think you're missing too much.

Yep, I've flown over the area including many of the Greek Islands and the Dardanelles (in the military) and wasn't overly impressed with the scenery. Just brown, rocky, nasty looking islands for the most part. We're not shoppers and the main reason for hitting Istanbul was for the culinary experience. That's our main draw when traveling to be honest. We'll take a glance around, but leave the normal travel activities up to the "typical" tourists. Personally, I would give my left nut ... heck, I'd give BOTH nuts to have Anthony Bourdain's job (Parts Unknown)! He does what I love most, traveling off the beaten path and discovering the culinary treats of the world. We already had a list of all the restaurants we were going to try while in Instanbul!

I just put a call in to Tony.....he's retiring, and wants you to have his job....however, he wants you to drop off your balls to his friend, Master Ball Chef, Mao Sugiyama. ;)

To feed that many folks, you'd prolly need a miracle like the "5 loaves and 2 fishes".....in your case, it'd be the miracle of "2 prunes and a beenie weenie."
