Watching 'The Virginian', a 1929 western with a very young Gary Cooper. A really, really well done movie considering how early it was. Owen Wister was a helluva writer and you can see a lot of his influence in McMurtry, Zane Grey, and even Louis L'amour. You can especially see some influences from this story to Lonesome Dove, especially the characters.

Watched some of "Red River" in between the Olympics and the ball game last night. That's another good one.
