Finally getting it done. Few more hours and I get my certificate. Crazy thing Mecklenburg county wants 90 days MINIMUM to process your application. I mean, they can't be that much paperwork ... Makes me feel I'm back in the old country ... geez!

In Oklahoma it takes 9 to 11 weeks.

Been 6 years but I believe the law on Virginia is that the court has 30 days to issue.

Not out of the ordinary for it to take 6-8 weeks in Indiana.

Not only I qualified 100 percent with both pistol and revolver, i also literally blew up 3 bulls eyes!

I just don't get why that long, it is 3 different background checks with 3 different agencies which will probably run parallel ... is all paperwork ....

Pretty sure after 30 days the copy of your application becomes a temporary permit. No requirement to live fire and the class can be taken online now as well. No more finger printing either...

Nandy, I just renewed mine in the next county over, and I've got GOOD connections and it still took 90 days just for my renewal.
It's just the process in general that takes so long.

Here in OK after you take the 10 hrs class you have to go to the county sheriff in the county you live in and get fingerprinted. They send the prints to the OSBI (Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation) and they do the the background check. That is why it takes so long here.

So apparently the hold up is due to the mental background check. Depending on the load these medical entities can take a month to reply back... I dont need it tomorrow, heck, I am getting it just so it is easier to get a handgun.... I mostly carried open when I wanted to.
