Color tour 2016

Mid September, still summer up here, temps in the low 80's, beautiful. Won't last long though.
Here is the tree line as you see it today.

not much change, nights are cooler (40's) and days are shorter.

color is way late this year, this picture looks like it should be mid Sept., first two weeks of Oct are usually the height of color.

Finally, little color turning up, about 2 -3 weeks late, but it's started.

It's happening fast, not sure how long it will last, temps still in the upper 60's, we're all waiting for the first forecast of snow, usually comes around the end of this month. Enjoy.

It's about at it's peak, should be, local weather forecast has the first mention of SNOW tomorrow night.:(

About 8 weeks from picture #1. Losing color fast, but still a lot of green in the woods, strange fall.
We've had a number of hard frosts and even our first snow, but you can see the end nearing.

Just a note of comparison, this week and the same time 4 year ago.

That's a remarkable difference. We've got as much color this year as you do this year. Basically, the dogwoods are turning red which is about our first tree to go and the odd maple has a branch or two that are changing for some reason.

I have spent the past 2 weeks around the blue ridge mountains and East TN. almost no color change, I had to get up to 5000 feet to see any real color change, however, we did saw a bear while about 2 miles from Mount Mitchell, that was neat!!!!

Dang, JB, I envy you, my friend....beautiful scenery and weather up there....90's here, all this week, and no rain for the past 47 days....like Cap says, it's so dry, even the catfish got ticks. ;)

Here's my color tour. We had a huge River Birch taken out of our front yard three weeks ago and just replaced it with this Maple yesterday.

CD, you probably know this, but my favorite thing about maples is they turn their palms up (their leaves flip over) when its going to rain.

I actually like it when the leaves are a little past peak and as the color on the leaves that are left seem particularly intense.

Those full fall colors are so beautiful makes you wish fall lsst half the year. Of course we still have leaves here. Trees ate completely out of sync. Thanks for the pictures!
