Even though the temps are really warm still, the squirrels are tearing up the hickory nuts and the hickory leaves are starting to change. The walnut leaves are yellowing and falling like mad. Kind of strange this year though, all of my walnut trees barely had any nuts on them.

Bad deal here... My "early season" squirrel hunting relies largely on hickory nuts.. Late frost = 0 hickory nuts.. as in I've been on 4 farms and have not seen one - not "1". Walnuts, spotty as hell. Might walk through 10 acres of timber and find one good "acorn" tree.. We actually have a few squirrels this year. Not expecting much next.

Our mast is quite a bit off here this year too.

It's an interesting year here. I'm seeing a fair amount of acorns, but they're fairly small or even stunted.

On the other hand, persimmons are enjoying a banner year. Hardly any wild plums.
And a wolly worm shot me the finger.
Strange goin's on.

Our acorns are small and not as many, no walnuts at all and nowhere near the amount of hickory nuts as normal.

We got pecans and acorns out our azz, this years. ;)

We are the same here muddy. You cannot hardly walk for the acorns on the ground. Corn is stacking up under the feeders too.
Walnut trees are LOADED! I did some bushhogging in the wildlife strip yesterday and if the tractor got close to a walnut tree it would beat the cab with walnuts falling.
