This has been rumored for a while and almost happened about a year ago. I think unread somewhere that it was something to do with the credit card programs that blew up the deal. So, they must have worked that out. Cabelas has canceled a groundbreaking for a store near me when this was first going down and then started construction when it was called off. I hope they still open the new store as our choices are pretty much limited to Dick's right now.

Looks like Capital One bought the credit card business. They must have some sort of side deal with BPS to honor the rewards.

Man I wish they were the Walmart of sporting goods. I can go into Walmart and not spend a hunnerd. I can't do that at BPS.

Both have strengths. I prefer Cabela's mail order better over BPS. For some reason I have more backorders on BPS than I do Cabelas. And I recently bought a linecounter combo from Cabelas. I'd looked at both and Cabelas had the one closer to what i wanted. I've bought BPS baitcaster combos that were superior to anything Cabelas had. And finally, when I want to spend a bit bigger bucks on a new rod and reel I want to handle it first, and I like dealing with the guys begind the counter at our local BPS. We don't have a local Cabelas.

But neither are as cheap as Walmart!

That kinda bums me out too. I like BPS but Cabelas had a different vibe to them.
