I was told by a Navy dude once that when at sea, they always tried to be GOOD friends with the Marines on board. He said that if someone falls overboard, the Marines would shoot around them to keep sharks away until they could be pulled out of the drink. The LAST thing a swabby wanted was to be on bad terms with one of the jarheads shooting around him! ;)
