Better Than Great...
I told y'all I wasn't going to waste any time in front of a TV watching mind numbing sports this weekend. I took my youngest daugther fishing today on the Mighty Missouri and the river was kind to us. It was a day that was better than as good as it gets, and better than great!
Here's my daughter with one of the biggest trout she's ever caught.

With another...

She didn't quite outfish her old man, but she did do well. I was fortunate to land a few as well.

This one tied the score of 2 each.

Finished strong and broke the tie breaker with this very nice rainbow. The rainbows are spawing right now and their colors are just absolutely something else.

Now that looks like a great time! And got to spend the day with a pretty girl to boot! They're growing up on you, Troy.
Nice fish!

Nice feesh. What did you catch them on?
-
-
Yeah! What kind of bait and hardware did y'all catch 'em with?
-
Wow! Great pics! She's growing up fast ... enjoy these times as often as possible while you still can.
-
If it gets any better then that I don't know it! Congrats to little Young Sky!

Great pics Troy. You are truly blessed to have such a beautiful daughter,I'm sure you'll remember this day for a long time.

Thanks guys it was about as perfect of a day as I've had in a long time. For those that want to know what we caught the fish on we mostly used maribou jigs made by Kit's Tackle http://www.kitstackle.com/ The jig we had the most success with is this one called the crawdad.

I also used this Firetiger jig and caught fish with it as well.

Last, but not least, my last fish bit on the tried and true silver and black Rapala floating version. I've probably caught more fish and different kinds of fish off this lure than anything else in my tackle box. It's caught walleye, smallmouth bass, largmouth bass, rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout, and probably a few others that slip my mind right now. If were forced to only have one lure in my tackle box this would be it.

Very nice! I love fishing with my daughters now that they're completely self-sufficient. Don't get much better'n 'nat.
-
I more than understand that self-sufficient comment. My daughter is close. The only thing she hasn't mastered yet is tying on her own lures, and that is my fault because I haven't taught her yet. It's on my to-do list.
-
Dang B/S! When I go to Canada, I have two favorite lures for Walleye (and Pike, but I don't fish for them on purpose).
I use the silver on brighter/clear water days ... and if it's a bit darker, I use the orange. They are my go-to Walleye lures!

My go-to are Rapalas as well but a later (and deeper ruunning) version of old Lauri Rapalas Original. My favorite color any time is called 'bleeding hot olive'. I just call it 'Becky'. Most of the Beckys I buy are size 11 which is the biggest one they make I think. Also has red hooks. I've caught a bate of big walleyes on it.

Nice, nice fish Sky. I just keep on coming back to this thread and gawking at those fish.
Dang. Did I say "nice fish"?
You are certainly raising those children right, teaching them the love of hunting and fishing and the great outdoors!
-
I love that style lure and my third most deadly item in my Canuckia tackle box was this blue Rapala. It's persactly like the two above other than color. Sounds like Rapala's are killer baits for Walleye!

Northern pike, that was one of those fish that slipped my mind. Yup Rapala's are a get'r done lure!
-
I grew up catching large mouth on the lake I lived on catching them on either the floating blue 11 Rapala or the silver. That was the go to for largemouth and pike. Still have a bunch of both in the tackle box.

When Birddog and I were fishing last weekend he tied on an old standard that is probably one of the most favorite lures for the region we live in. It was an old Humpback rebel. Man I've caught a ton of fish on those. It didn't do much for him that day though!

I bet those big trout would tear up a Rebel Wee-craw.
-
I'll bet they would to. I caught a 41" Northern Pike on a Rebel Craw at Lake of the Woods back in '88. (Man that makes me sound old "Back in '88") Funny thing is I hardly ever fish with one any more when I'm up north.

Chicken Dinner, I actually thought about that and had a couple on me. However the current was so strong I decided they probably wouldn't work well. Here in our local creek though I've done pretty well with that little Rebel Wee Craw. There's also a nice creek about 80 miles from here that is chuck full of smallies and rainbow trout. I like using the Rebel there because it seems to work equally well on both species of fish.

Keep looking at these and I have to agree with myself, those are some FINE looking trout.
