Edward - Was in your fair state ... twice... very briefly

Pretty much climbed out of the combine and into the pick up and headed for Alabama to do a little fishing.

Did stop long enough to grab a bite in a little roadside café. Fried pork chop, purple something or other (considerably better than boiled peanuts), fried okra and sweet tea.. $5.50.. Good thing I took lots of cash. ;)

Caught some nice fish but nothing big.. Several like this.. still fun and we ate a few small ones.

Looks like a lot of beans to cut and cotton to chop in TN.. Looked like they were wet...

You need a bigger screen on that sonar!

Btw, pretty sure you ate some pink eye purple hull peas.....they're a southern staple for us.....they're even better with diced onions mixed in with them, and a big dose of Tabasco.....this is the MS variety:

We fished Wheeler and Wilson. I liked the purple peas.. Wish I'd known about the Tabasco. That would be right up my alley.

That’ll be a pretty nice fish in a year or two. ;)

Hide, if you liked the purple hull peas, you'll love our southern "Hoppin' Johnny" recipe.....


>3 cups cooked pink eye purple hull peas
>1/2 onion, chopped
> stalk celery, chopped
> clove garlic, minced
> cup chopped smoked ham
> can hot Rotel, drained

Just mix it all togather and eat it, or serve it over rice.....lots of folks use plain ole blackeye peas, but they tend to get mushy real quick.....there's hundreds of variations, but this is what we like at our house.

lol... Actually - these *weren't* big fish by "blue" standards.. but fun for a bunch of old men used to fishing channel cats in the Iowa River. ;)

Hoppin John is standard New Years Day fare around these parts. I like ‘em any time.

I love to make Hoppin' John in a slow cooker. Always on NYE and usually during the year as well. Cornbread makes a fine juice soaker upper, too!

Yep, NY day for us, too, but gotta have the cracklin' cornbread. ;)
