To borrow (and edit) one of my favorite Posthole expressions, I’m about to hunt in my pants.

I’m super pumped! Headed out Friday evening with the youngest. He will hunt sat and sun then i bring him home and head back for 2 more days solo!
Weather is perfect so far.
I haven't fired a shot but I've bagged 6 hindquarters, 8 shoulders and 2 necks.
Hopefully, not all with your truck!

A 243 is a perfectly acceptable hunting rifle.
Provided of course, you're hunting ground squirrels or chipmunks
It really is a good caliber. I have a cat that hunts field mice with a .243! ;)
The got a .243 for my older boy’s first deer rifle when he was 12 and my only regret is that he’s left handed. It’s a great little rifle that kills deer way better than the ballistic chart says it should.
That being said, please return to giving RT a hard time!

If you need some .243 casings to reload I’ll run by the Girl Scout camp and see if I can talk the girls into saving them for you!
And I'll go with him to see if I can pick up some Girl Scouts! :biggrin
Why do you guys want to scare those poor girls like that?

Opener is going to be very odd for me this year. I've never hunted on my own property before AND where the deer are at makes them double barreled difficult to get to.
I see does and fawns all the time in my fields. But the bucks? Ah, that is different. They only show up once in a while and I cannot find any place they have marked out on my place. At least where the lumber company isn't thinning out things. So my stand is right on the edge of the field where I see the bucks occasionally figuring that they go around behind my house to get from one field to another without walking right across the fields. I think they run below the house between the two entries they use to enter the fields.
So I own 82 acres and am set up about a 100 yards from my front door and right on the edge of one of the fields. Hopefully the wife doesn't yell to me from the porch asking how its going. :p

Just add up 243, they equal 9, good age appropriate.:fine
Crap! There was a good caliber argument up there and I missed it. :(
Looking at the long term forecast it looks like rain/snow with a high of 37 degrees. Looks like the kevlar/stainless 7-08 will be my choice. The walnut/blue 06 is too pretty to hunt in that kind of weather lol.

I will be sending a large bag of jerky to each person that hasn’t talked shit on this post.
In short, I’ll be saving a trip to the post office.
Hey!

Truth be told, RT admitted to me in a side conversation that he got a free bottle of Mydol when he bought that .243.

Hank, I have seen two does being run in the fields over the past week. One 6 point and one 8 point ran a doe practically across the front yard.
This is the first time I've actually built a stand. With me sitting on the edge of a field, and standing out like a bourbon bottle at a country revival in the old timber that borders it, I got out the chainsaw and went to work. Built a nice little brush stand that looks like the other ones I left after cutting firewood there this spring. Kind of cool... has a Tred Barta feel to it. :)

The stands I use most often are ones right on a fence line or the edge of the woods overlooking a field. I could count on one hand the number off deer I’ve shot in the woods over the past 30+ years. Dang near every one has been out in the field.

I've only only hunted two hours opening morning but just sitting around the camp has netted me about 100 lbs of venison, a fish dinner, couple packages of Ornx sausage and several cups of coffee. That's the only way to hunt
Squirrel jerky?
