I almost dread those months where I draw a 3rd paycheck or someone paying back a loan. You just know the appliance karma gods are watching. :)

I had a tree limb come down and hit the neighbor's power line breaking the service pipe to his house. I paid him $850 out of pocket for the repairs, then hired a tree service to clean up the mess for $1200. Lynn's stimulus arrived the day before they started.
Tally: Minus $850
My stimulus arrived.
Tally: Plus $350
Then we immediately had to take one of our cats to the vet for an emergency surgery ... another $850!
Talley for our stimulus money: Minus $500 ... all within a few days! :crybaby
At least I used it the way it's supposed to be used ... to stimulate the economy. I just wish I'd had the option to "stimulate" it in a different way!
Still waiting for mine, but the good news is, for the first time in about 10 years, I get a refund on my taxes, some from changes to the tax code, some from investment changes and some from a slight decrease in my second job. Rolled some of it into next years taxes so I won't have to make my first two quarterly payments. Now what could go wrong ??

Oh, and thanks for nothing. We bought this house 31 years ago and are still using the same (electric) water heater that was in here when we bought it. (no clue how old it was at that time) I think I'm living on borrowed time. :(
Well damn! You put the bug in my ear and now I'm contemplating a new water heater before this one gives up the ghost. I just called for a quote and it appears I need another stimulus check. The estimate? $1200 of course!

Mines in the unfinished part of the basement and I will replace it when it springs a leak. Depending on how much longer I think I’ll be here, I’d seriously consider tankless.

My water heater is original to the house. 1998
It’s in the garage and the garage is lower grade than the house so I don’t have flooding to worry about, but I’m guessing it won’t be long.
It’s gas, and I’m not familiar with gas fittings, or I’d replace it myself.
Pex and shark bite fittings make plumbing a breeze these days.

I had a tankless water heater for years and I loved it. You can get gas or electric, about the size of a box of cheerios. 4 gallons per minute capacity and you could wash clothes and shower and still have hot water. I'm not talking about those little on demand things that fit up under your sink like a Rheem which btw has horrible ratings. I bought a Stiebel which had a ten year warranty. Easy Peasy, also has a thermostat to adjust your temperature.
I dunno about a two/three bathroom house, might need bigger than 4 gpm

I replaced mine last year, it was pretty easy, my old one was 15 years old.
I replaced the gas water heater in my California house years ago. Piece of cake. The one I have now (electric) has never leaked, but I’ve replaced an element (has two) a few times over the years. It just keeps on goin’ on, but I know I’m pressing my luck. I’ll have to hire someone to replace this one. I’m just no longer physically able to wrestle a new one around. :(
believe it or not a water heater is very light when it is empty....

It’s not so much the weight A/B, it’s the awkwardness of moving, positioning and hooking up The plumbing/wiring, etc. My back just doesn’t work like it used to. The unit is in a linen closet ... close quarters which would require a lot of bending, etc. Much like replacing a garbage disposal under a kitchen sink (which I did a couple years ago and thought I’d have to call 911 to get me back out from under the sink). Heck, I have a riding mower sitting in the shed, yet have to pay to get my grass cut these days as my back can’t take the bouncing around. Trust me, I can’t STAND paying someone to do what I can do myself, but I’m just not physically able anymore. It sucks big weenies. :(
