    Well, that's a real downer ...

... John Glenn passed away today.

I was in the 4th grade and our teacher, Mrs. Orr, took us all out onto the playground to watch the launch. I'm starting to feel really old. RIP John Glenn. You were a true American (even though you were a Democrat).

You dang right a national hero. My Mom always claimed he was never the same when he came back from his flight. I think he fell in the bathtub or something and hurt himself and she said that proved it. She still thinks it to this day.

RIP John! It took guts to do what you and the others did during that time.

Yeah, he retired from NASA (or resigned?) to run for Congress. I remember he bumped his noggin and had to drop out of the race. I don't remember if he fell or not, but I assume he did.

BTW. my grandmother swore the moon landing was "trick photography" until the day she died.

He used to live right down the street from me and attend the church my boys went to Cub Scouts at. My wife met him a couple times for work and has nothing but good things to say about him. God speed, Jihn Glenn.
