Bwana, Big Sky and other Yankees...you OK??

Looks like y'all are getting some major cold. I saw -14 in Bismarck. Is it even possible to breath in that kind of cold?
It's 31 here this morning and I'm thinking of not going hunting.
I can't imagine cold like y'all are having.

Man-o-man, that stuff looks crazy on the news. It just confirms my belief that Yankees ain't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I guess some of them are just partially insane as the I-95 and I-75 Southbound lanes are moving some pretty heavy traffic right now. I just looked out my office window and see three Sandhill Cranes grazing in my front yard, so I know it's that time of year.

Looks like we have a cold-wave hitting just after Christmas!

    Here's our 14-day forecast:

Doing fine here in Indiana. Had about six inches of snow the other day and another inch overnight with a 15 MPH wind which caused some drifting. A bit cold but not terrible.

    Here's the current weather.

24 here now and the high for the day was just before dawn at 30. Winds are blowing a sustained 20-30 all day. So, it'll be better when that lays down a bit tonight. Still saw kids getting dropped off at school in shorts this morning.

I think our low is supposed to be 9 here on Saturday. Duck hunting weather!

I remember once I was headed to SW Minnesota to go ice fishing with Bassdog and two of his brothers. The forecast called for like -20 and I called Bassdog to ask if we were still on. "What the hell you talking about boy?" I think once it gets to zero, it don't matter much. Just remember the ice fisherman's motto and 'always grab it by the shank!'

Driving back from Captain's I will bet I saw a million ducks in that area between Memphis and Little Rock. And that's not an exaggeration. I was driving through there about 4:30 or so and it looked like one of those waterfowl tornados. Just crazy, and it went on for an hour. They knew something was on its way. Not sure how they know but they were ahead of that big cold front.

Happens every winter. No big deal, just stay inside and close to the wood stove. Just yesterday after work I got 2 cords of wood all split, stacked, and ready to go for the next month or two. Btw 2 cords is a pretty good size pile of wood and my back is feeling it a little this morning. I thought about coyote hunting this weekend, but the wind will be a little stronger than I like to call in, and when it gets colder than -20 coyote hunting starts to not be fun anymore. Not to mention I haven't had much luck when it's that cold. I don't think they like running around in it either. On a really serious note, this kind of cold really messes with everything electronic from e-callers for predator hunting, to vehicle batteries and everything that is dependent on that battery. For that matter it just messes with vehicles in general, nothing runs right in extreme cold...including me.

When this gets old maybe Florida will be more appealing. I expect though, that I will die before that happens.

It is currently a balmy 0 degrees right now but the cold is supposed to be coming in tomorrow when the daytime high is supposed to be -12 and over night it is supposed to dip down to -27 degrees.

I was planning on doing a combination coyote/turkey hunt tomorrow now that the boys are home from college but MIGHT hold off. That being said, given I haven't been hunting for the past couple of weeks due to other obligations I am getting REALLY antsy to get back out there so who knows...

I got up at 4 to go deer hunting. Came in the den of the SC house and cheked the outside thermometer and it indicated 18 degrees! I just put on a cup of coffee and laid back in the recliner and watched an old western..
Been out once to put out hay in one pasture. Got to go do the other and then I think I'll deer hunt from the recliner again this afternoon

Captain, sound to me like you need to build a heated blind with a recliner...best of both worlds.

I found that by turning the heater on its lowest setting, leaning all the way back to one corner of the blind, my feet reach perfectly to the window on the other corner. And thus I took one of the best naps in a year.

-10 here tomorrow nite. Full moon. If the win's not blowing I'll probably take a little walk.. Coyotes are raising hell just across the road as we speak.
If you turn a dog loose to hunt – you’d better to be ready to deal with what he trees.
